“I went to see a bluegrass show last night with a few local bands and headlining Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. My friends and I were about the youngest ones there other than the kids of attending parents. One of the bands was a family with 3 generations represented in the band. The littlest looked about 10 years old but still shredded the mandolin up. At one point, 4 little girls stepped onstage and danced to the song. The show was such a reverend experience with no swearing, screaming and getting crazy, and was almost like going back in time before amplified electric instruments. Makes me wonder if shows like these will still be around in 10-20 years?”

“I just got back from Merlefest.. a 4 day bluegrass/blues/cajun/celtic get together..It was awesome..They had
15 stages going on but over the course of 4 days all performers played more than 3 times a day..

Jam sessions everywhere..The highlight of the whole event for me was to see Allison Krauss and Union Station..

In addition to all the concerts going on they had every kind of competition..I sat in and watched the Mandolin and Banjo contests..I was so disappointed that not one women participated..I made a vow that before long I would be up on that stage with my Mandolin giving it my all!!!!!!”

“Saturday was beautiful... I put a backpack and walked out along the Charles River to the Hatch Shell for an outdoor Earthday/Earthweek show. Garbage, Midnight Oil, Lisa Loeb and Bonnie Raitt performed. My sons sat way up front and my younger son got a "high-5" from Shirley Manson (now there's a MILF for ya). Someone else (Johnny A? performed and was quite lame).

Friday I see Lori McKenna... an incredible songwriter and great singer(also a Mom, but not a milf).”

“Last live concert was my son in a teen jazz concert. He's eleven but was allowed to join 'cause he's got "it." They played some Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie. He had his first improv solo and wailed. He's the only clarinet so the band leader swung a mic under his bell. He played in a higher pitch then I've ever heard him practice, sounded like a soprano sax. Guess I should take this to the "boasting parent thread!"”

“The vegan boy is doing well and I'm learning to expand my vegan cooking.

He has an article in the current issue of a national church-based publication and it came out recently. It was on display at a table at the Earth Day concerts. Between that a getting a few words and a "high 5" and a few words from Shirley, he was feeling like hot stuff.

Its so great to share musical interests with my kids. They even ask to go along to some of the concerts I go to.”

“The last OzzFest I scored Pavillion tickets by hanging out at the front gate and asking the folks leaving if they had a pavillion seat ticket they'd like to donate to a hardcore Black Sabbath fan. I was truely surprised at the number of people leaving before the last 2 acts, bu they were kind and generous.

I got there with Slipnot, Marilyn Manson then Black Sabbath to go onstage. Watched Slipnot from the grass and prior to Marilyn Manson, went to the gate and solicited for closer (pavilion) tickets. It worked like a charm, and I scored 3 tickets so my other friends could enter the pavilion and get close(r) to the bands.

I suggest you try it...if you have grass tickets!!!”

“I got tickets that are in the pavilion but at the back. My wife bought tickets for Creed through a broker ($160, SHEEAT!) and Scott Stap got messed up in a car wreck and they cancelled the tour so we have $160 credit with the broker and I may use that cash to upgrade my seats. The only reason I wanted to go is to see Zack Wylde tear it up with Black Lable Society.”

“One thing I can say about System, Nigal, they were interesting when they first came out. I had a buddy that worked at a college radio station and he first introduced me to them. They were pretty okay then.”

No no no! One of TOOL's guitar techs had a band called A Perfect Circle and asked Mainard to do the vocals for the band. It is not as out in left field but has a great sound. Check 'em out, you'll like 'em.”

“Both concert festivals are great if you like the lineup of musicians. Lollapallooza has more wierd-act bands, whereas Lillith Fair is pretty much all chick bands for chicks and chicks who like chicks.”

I agree that Lollapalooza went down hill, I don't even know if they run anymore. I would have or would like to see either one. Just to see what it was like. I've never been to a festival like that.”

“i went to the Lilith Fair! it was alright, but not all that great. compared to other music festivals, the activity there seemed so--horrors--legal! hehe. i did get some sun, though...it was during the day, and we brought a blanket to lay on. actually, i'm remembering now that it was a really pretty day...lots of families there, too. :-)”
