Nice memories and can't wait to do another trip, but I hope the black flies calm down soon.” 6:54:01 AM 4/30/02 “Beautiful. I am originally from SW Pa; so now I'm homesick. I lived in Murrysville.” 9:55:08 AM 4/30/02 “PA is awesome, great pics, i love the BFT.” 10:44:00 AM 4/30/02 “Great pictures! Thanks for sharing. m-silver, Sparky is gorgious! I'm getting to be a herding dog nut. Scully- just wait til you see "the Bear" in his Speedos! Talk about blinded! LOL! Jerbear, I miss you!” 11:38:40 AM 4/30/02 “Great pics guy's! What a great trip! Alex & I had a great time sharing the trail with all of you. Good timing on the Jerber's moonshot! I still haven't fully recovered. Looking forward to meeting up with everyone again.” 11:53:14 AM 4/30/02 “Great trip pics from both. That shot of Jerbear, though, is clearly in the running for the official TT T-shirt illustration.” 4:29:17 PM 4/30/02 “Yo bears, ya all know i am a minamalist! LOL Put me on a t-shirt! Pamster-I will wear my bright ones NEXT time! LOL” 6:29:44 PM 4/30/02 “Kick @ss pictures!!!!!! The BFT is a great trail!!!!! 8)” 6:55:50 PM 4/30/02 “Thanks for posting the pictures. Must have missed the picture of Jerbear's butt. That's OK though. Saw the bare bear once before. Vision is still messed up. Anywho, Nice looking mountain views from the overlooks. Where is this place?” 6:59:35 PM 4/30/02 “WD - The BFT is in the Tiadaghton State Forest near Slate Run. It's in Northcentral Pa about 40-50 miles northwest of Williamsport. Thankfully, I hit the shutter a second before Jerbear's famous moonshot. Finewhine is having trouble recovering because he was sitting way too close to it. ;o)” 8:13:11 PM 4/30/02 MORE BFT PICS “I've added two more albums of BFT pics at my Webshots site. They include full-resolution versions of the 16 low-res, edited shots in my "Black Forest Trail" album, plus about 40 additional images not presented therein - also unedited and at full resolution for downloading, if any of you guys are interested. The album titles are: "BFT Pics at Full Resolution - Album 1" and "BFT Pics at Full Resolution - Album 2" Both are at my Webshots page. Here's the URL... http://community.webshots.com/user/m_silver I'll leave these two unedited albums up for about a month before deleting them. Pennsy: Great shots! Excellent! Now all we need are the Scouts' pictures. Thanks for the CD offer, but I think I can get all the pics I want by downloading from your two Webshots albums. Thanks for posting them.” 5:25:50 AM 5/01/02 “great pics, guys! Looks like a rowdy buncha boyz. Sorry I missed that! >:D” 7:20:15 AM 5/01/02 “My computer is WAYYYY TOO Slow! I've been looking at these albums for two days now, and I didn't get to all of them yet. Great pictures and places! The longer days made things especially nice, I think. You guys got some great sunset and early morning pictures. The campsite locations looked very comfortable. But a cabin near the Foster Hollow site? What's up with that? Was anyone there for the weekend? How were the campsites near the County Line Branch? Besides being soggy after Sat. night's rain. Did anyone walk past those? Were there a lot of creek crossings on that section of the trail? How was the Sentiero De Shay trail? Looks like a higher, drier trail. The map of that section is just riddled with trails. Did you see any other hikers or groups of hikers? I'm sorry that I missed this hike, the trail still had that nice uncluttered winter look to it.” 8:59:47 AM 5/01/02 “Pennsy Hiker, I am new to PA and here in Carlisle. If you go on another one of those trips give me a holler and if I can break away I would love to go! Sparky, Great Pics!” 12:35:01 PM 5/01/02 “There was someone staying at the cabin that night at Foster Hollow, but I never even saw anyone walk outside to check us out. The De Shay trail was wet and swampy in many sections which was a good test for my new Gore Tex boots. I think Landsurfer said that the County Branch section of trail had many water crossings that were high because of the rain. I've never been down in that section so I'll have to go back and hike it someday. We did see a few other hikers on the trail and one group that started on Wed.” 5:16:15 PM 5/01/02 “Lyndy: According to the map (and trail guide), there are several campsites along County Line Branch between mile 13.22 and about mile 16. The two sites near mile 13.66 are very nice - under the canopy of tall pine trees. One Summer, my brother and I stayed at the mile 15.52 site, which was also nice. I've camped at Foster Hollow Pond four or five times before. Other than last weekend, only once before were there people staying there -- they arrived well after dark, and except for the headlights waking me up, I heard no noise that night or the next morning before I packed up and left. Seems like a quiet bunch that use the cabin. And it's nice that they don't object to trekkers camping within sight of the cabin (supposedly a violation of PA State Forest camping rules). Moreover, they maintain the pond, the area immediately around it, and an excellent spring. It's a very nice camping area: large, open and level, with lots of soft pine needles on the ground. sparky: If you come along on any future BFT treks, then there'll be two sparkies (you and my dog) :-)” 7:27:02 PM 5/01/02 btw... “Nice pics!” 7:35:41 PM 5/01/02 “Windwalker - if we have the same hair stylist, we should fire her! ;o) M_Silver - I already have 5 cds burned and a nice 8x10 print of Sparky I'd like you to have. It's be my pleasure to send them your way if you like. Which reminds me.... I've got Jerbear's and Finewhine's addresses. If the rest of the BFT'ers would like a cd of all 280+ pics, email me your address at bjj@fast.net Sparky (the human one) - stay tuned to Trail Talk. I'm sure they'll be more trips this year in the area. I can already see what fun we'll have with 2 Sparkys. Yo Amy - We're rowdy? Wow, talk about the pot calling the kettle black! Mooohaaahaaa!” 8:06:58 PM 5/01/02 “M Silver- no photos of the lions, or tigers, or bears? Sparky did look pretty ferocious. They prolly knew better than to get close enough.” 12:36:21 AM 5/02/02 muahahaaaaa “Mr. Pennsy, I am sure I have no idea what you are talking about. 0:)” 7:24:50 AM 5/02/02 Eyes Peeled! “K... I will have my peepers scanning for the next trip.... It looks like you all had a lot of fun. I am heading to the Pine Grove Furnace State Park and Hiking to the Tagg shelter for a weekend trip so I am "attempting" to stay in shape to keep you with you all! Happy trails Sparky (the human) :)” 11:36:08 AM 5/02/02 “Silly me Amy - of course you wouldn't know about rowdiness..... you're married now. ;o) Btw - whereabouts did you and Dare move to?” 8:32:36 PM 5/02/02 “Pennsy, what kind of camera do you have that takes such great pictures? sPArky” 11:46:38 AM 5/06/02 “Hey, it ain't the camera, it's me! ;o) Actually, the pictures from my last 3 trips were taken with a Nikon D1H digital SLR. I'm glad you like the pics.” 2:07:21 PM 5/06/02 Fergit it! “Sparky, Pennsy's camera is VERY SERIOUS photography equipment! If you wanted to buy what he has, you'd have to sell all your outdoor gear, mortgage your car, and eat only baloney sandwiches for the rest of your days here on earth.” 2:24:14 PM 5/06/02 “BUT, if you are ALREADY eating only baloney sandwiches (guaranteeing a short painful existance here on earth) then you will have to sell your hiking stories as well as your gear, in order to buy Pennsy's camera. Or you can just ambush Pennsy (Pennsy, get a dog, QUICK!)” 3:14:24 PM 5/06/02 “Penn, Just got my package !I am impressed, U DEW good work man! THANKS!” 4:35:08 PM 5/06/02 “Awwww baloney!! ;o) LOL Mr Silver! I'm getting used to baloney though. Every other week I switch to spam just for a change of pace. Thanks for the heads-up Lyndy.... I'm off to the pound to git me some protection! Yo Bear - wow, that was fast. It went out on Friday. Just remember that you got ALL the pics, including the out of focused and poorly exposed ones. You gotta promise to keep those uglies to yerself. ;o)” 5:10:03 PM 5/06/02 “I knew it was you Pennsy who is the "artist" behind the lens... I was just wondering about the camera's sharp contrast. I am not really fond of balony so I think I will stick with my 1.3 meg Fuji... I will just have to squeeze into some of your pics ;) LOL... Plus I am a gear junkie and I could not part with my little babies... sPArky” 6:09:27 PM 5/06/02 BFT Pics “Hey Guys, The pics are finally up. Sorry it took me so long. You can view the pics at http://community.webshots.com/album/37483885rurHGY Hey M Silver, Rich B., Pennsy, and Jerbear. Your CD's are on the way.” 3:54:01 PM 5/10/02 “Kewl! Take your time!LOL” 5:36:48 PM 5/10/02 “Kewl! Take your time!LOL” 5:36:49 PM 5/10/02 “What's with the double talk , Jerbear? I wanted to email you the pic of you next to the Morris Run Falls, but I didn't have your” 7:12:46 PM 5/10/02 “Hmmmm... Jerbear is stuttering and landsurfer can't finish a sentence... Hey, great shots landsurfer! I also got the CD today. You captured a lot of very nice shots. It must have been my tips, eh? ;o) Thanks for the CD.” 7:42:49 PM 5/10/02 “Your welcome Pennsy. I still have alot to learn about photography and the digital world. I have a place I want to go to and take some pictures of water falls to send you. It's on a section of the Big Wapwallopen creek. It will be good practice.” 9:02:16 PM 5/10/02 “landsurfer: Thanks for posting the pics and for sending the CD. I especially like #067 (Cliff at Columbine Vista), and the two group shots (#075 & #090) at the other vistas. All of the posted shots are great. Many other nice ones on the CD. Thanks again. Wapwallopen -- what a name!” 10:30:58 AM 5/11/02 “The name Wapwallopen is Indian. It means where the "white hemp grows". 1 of my fovorite pics from the trip were the scenes from on top of Hemlock Mt. At the time I took them we were at the 13 mile point for that day, and I was to tired to really enjoy the view. I want to get back up there in early October to get some Fall colors. Your pics turn out great as usual. I havn't had a chance to download any yet, but maybe tonight.” 3:34:43 PM 5/11/02 “BTW Guy's' Cliff's batch of blisters healed up, and my knee is just about back to normal. Thinking about where to go next.” 3:45:54 PM 5/11/02 “Landsurfer, The pictures look great and thanks for posting them. Glad to hear you guys are all healed up too.” 9:46:39 AM 5/12/02 “Itchin' for more blisters and busted knees, eh? Well... where DO you all want to go next? And when?” 7:58:58 PM 5/12/02 “Watch how you answer that question Pennsy? You know what happened the last time.” 8:30:55 PM 5/12/02 “Well M Silver, I'm not sure yet, but I want to try another loop. I have a scout meeting on Tuesday night and we are going to discuss some places and possible dates. The thought of seeing some elk on the Quehanna trail sounds tempting as Rich B. suggested. I would most likely have to cut the trip to about 25 to 30 miles for a weekend trek.” 8:39:15 PM 5/12/02 “I've been on the Quehanna several times over the past 10 years or so. Covered alomst every mile, including both cross-connectors. It's one of the most remote areas in PA. Wouldn't mind doing part of it again. But I was out there about a year ago, and the ticks were BAD so I didn't go back.” 8:49:54 PM 5/12/02 “I was out there last Oct. and there were ticks on the part of the trail that cut through the open meadows. I didn't pick any up on other parts of the trail, but I kept long pants on that were tucked into my socks just in case.” 9:43:31 PM 5/12/02
