Victorinox Swiss Army Spartan model knife, because it was a gift several years ago from my daughter, the first after she was old enough to realize I liked outdoor gear. We picked it out together after she gave me a gift certificate for the local hunting/fishing store.

being a nightowl by nature, i love my tiny little tikka that shines sooo bright in just the right places. It allows me to do all the night activities i enjoy with great ease......to echo pekka, it was also the first outdoor gear my son ever gave me as a gift so that makes it neat too. (yo casey, not that i didn't love all the earrings and cd's ya got me thru the years)

How did I know mikey was going to like everything?

I could say that about my last pair of boots- my Vasques. I am not that impressed with my Raichles. Damn, and i just bought another pair.

I don't know, I can't think of THE PRIMO piece of gear I have, maybe I should go look at my stuff Ü

Your wife is a piece of gear?

My brother's girlfriend once told me she felt like a piece of gear. lol

She did not say if she felt like a piece of used gear or a piece of shiny new gear.

Either way, I think she was P.O.ed at my brother.

My sledgehammer, overkill, ultra expensive, over weight, unable to justify hiking boots.

Did I ever tell you about the time I walked across a thirty foot wide creek, 12 inches deep, with my Vasque Sundowners and Black Diamond gaiters, and then waited twenty minutes for everyone else to take off their boots/shoes and wade barefoot?

Well it happened again.

My feet were dry as a bone. ....and I mean a big old laid out in the sun baking for two years bone!

The Western Mountaineering Kodiak bag is really nice to have when it's freezing out. When in the field it's my favorite, just by necessity.

As for the gadget factor, the Nikon is the choice. No question.

Phil, when we try to lighten the load, we have to think about the fact that we sleep almost (or more) than we hike.....a good sleeping pad is worth it to me.

Everything's cool up north here, Father Goose...nothing much to report, except gasoline just shot up 5 cents a litre tonight...that's up about 20 cents a gallon (1 gallon is about 4 litres). It's currently at $2.96 Can a gallon.

Dang, bro, and I thought gas prices were bad here! In Alabama, high test is $1.50 American. I am out in San Diego visiting my niece and I dang near crapped my pants when I had to pay $1.83 to fill her Mercedes! I'd say California's not too far from Canada on petrol extortion! Better than our friends across the pond, though.
