Bear Spray
It works great on my ritualistic late night camp raids - especially if I'm not in a particularly stealthy mood.

Everything one needs is available in the backcountry if you know where others are camped...

You know, Phil makes a very good point. I comparison shopped it and the LE weighs less than a ridgerest and ultralite combined and takes up far less space. The LE will be my next sleeping pad.

good point gojo. Maybe that's why I don't really have a favorite item. I know I can go into any of your campsites and get one!

My favorite peace of gear will now be MY NRA STICKER. It'll keep you scum outta my campsite.

I also will be putting up signs that say: "This campsite protected by Smith and Wesson."

BwaHAhahaha!!

The real trick
is to find a basecamp, then raid it while they are dayhiking or climbing or whatever.

If it's a large party, you can sometimes move in undetected. You can say; "You remember me, I'm the one who lost his gear at the river crossing". An they will eventually say: "Oh yeah, I remember now - noodles?".
