Memorial Day is right around the corner. What are you guy's plans?

I'll be doing a two night trip in the Catskills with a couple of buddies. Route is still being debated. I can't wait!

I should go to the Pecos. Might be a time to do a dry run of a Loop backpack in the Sandias I've been working out. I've scouted the springs and trails, just need to connect the loop.

My first bp outing of the year. I will do a weekend patrol in the San Gorgonio Wilderness. Hope to do the summit on Sunday. Should be interesting because water sources are low or dried up in a few popular camping spots so everyone will have to carry more water. I can't wait.

The Extravaganza
Me too. Planning on bringing my car camping stuff and relaxing in style in camp.

Is there gonna be enough room for a big (big for backpacking anyway) tent? My big tent will hold four, but I'm bringing along a double size air mattress. I could probably squeeze a couple more in if people need someplace to sleep.

Disclaimer: Not About Hiking!!!
Let's see...Friday pick up Sauron from school, drive 400 miles to my Dad's house in Michigan. Spend the night there. Saturday morning, drive the 400 miles back to Kentucky. Load all of my wordly possessions onto a trailer and truck. Sunday, drive the 520 miles to my new home in Georgia. Oh yeah, it's going to be a great weekend.

Or did ya mean the horse ride? I wasn't planning to carry the horse either :P

In reality the horse ride does scare me a bit since ive never done it before and worse since i weigh a lot i will end up with a big one... (poor horse)...maybe its a secrect plan by my kids to get their inheritance sooner.

Homework...theirs, not mine
Finishing up grading for the semester, which ends on the 24th. Normally I would put it off until after Mem. Day, but I have a 4-day curriculum design "train the trainer" seminar starting the 28th. Hope the rest of you have fun. Once summer school starts June 4th, I'll have 4-day weekends through the end of July, so I'll play catch up with everyone then.

carcamping in BSP...
Usually I don't go away on the big holiday weekends cause I hate the traffic, but it was the only May weekend that fit. I'm planning on hiking a mountain or two I haven't done yet or maybe a favorite I've done many times - depends on which trails are open.

After many late nights at work, my son's IRS audit from hell, and miscellaneous other bull#&%!$, I'm ready to go beat myself up in the woods. So lookin' forward to this trip!

Constructing something extra neat outta cedar logs for the backyard. Plan #1: a small log playhouse for Abby. If there isn't enough cedar then Plan #2: a grape arbor with two benchs inside. I'll be drawing up rough plans soon. Oh, and a whole buncha relaxing and eatting and drinking. Hope the weather'll be nice. Maybe a day long canoe with the kidlet too.

Hey Kodiakman, granite tors is supposed to be a great trip. My son did it with scouts. Memorial Day weekend is almost always fabulous weather. Our favorite place to go that weekend was the Denali Highway. Usually warm, even hot, and dry.

Planning a family campout/backpacking trip on the Ouachita Trail near the AR/OK border.

This...

Tips for what to cook for 16 kids and 10 adults over a campfire, or on backpacking stoves? I'm thinking that fajitas might be good, with most things cut up ahead of time, and a vegetable platter, and cheese platter prepared ahead of time, might be good. Then smores from the campfire for dessert.

If you're not meat-averse, Johnsonville brats are pretty darn good cooked over a fire. Just be sure to poke some holes in the casing, and make sure they get completely done. If you don't want to worry about getting them cooked completely, pick a pre-cooked kielbasa or smoked sausage. Yummy!
Like hot dogs, only better.

I think that my husband is addicted to Johnsonville brats, but he won't be on this trip>:-)

That, or kielbasa is an idea, though, that I can offer at the menu planning meeting. I like kielbasa and eggs together, even for dinner.
