Johnsonville brats ROOL!

Memorial Day weekend is the annual Highland Festival at the Orange County (CA) Fairgrounds. Gonna watch big men in kilts throw around telephone poles and drink Bass & Newcastle and watch bands play

Mixing them with a red beans and rice dinner is good too. Most of the prepackaged red beans and rice dinners I've had go way overboard on the spices though. You might consider making and dehydrating your own.

Yikes! For 26 people? Might want some well ventilated platform tents after they all eat beans!

No, I think that I want to stay away from beans on this trip. Maybe sloppy joes? Potato, carrots, green beans and beef chunks in gravy in foil packets, and apple cobbler packets of foil in the hot coals?

Oh yeah, don't forget to toss in a whole apple. It makes the meat tender and juicy and the apple is really good 'baked' like that.

I have a business conference that Thursday and Friday. It will be at Stillwaters on Lake Martin, AL. I'm debating on whether to stay the whole weekend and play or come home and goof off.

So, what's everybody doing?

I am thinking of a few trips:

1. Yet another trip to Yellow River State Forest, to either hike the usual trails and see just how many people DO GET OUT on Memorial Day weekend... or hike some other areas of the forest.

2. Do a night or two at the Kickapoo Valley Preserve in Wisconsin between Ontario and Rockton. It's kind of a new place with lots of trails... however, they're multi-use. Also, good canoeing. The Kickapoo River is the "crookedest" river around.

3. Do the North Country Trail trip of CMB's... if it's still on.

4. Do an overnighter or something in the Richard J. Dorer Forest in SE Minnesota.

5. Do a trip I've always plotted on the Upper Iowa River, from the Lower Dam on through DNR land to Coon Creek trout stream. Been in from both ends, so know the land. Would prolly camp in between. OR go to the far end, have a bike hidden there, stash the pack and bike back to my car, maybe 7-10 miles??

6. Sit around exhausted pondering the possibilities. LOL!! (and also saving moola to leave very shortly for Nebraska/South Dakota)

LOL!

Hooking up with some of the TT originals for some backpacking in Siskiyou Wilderness. Looks like ChinaChas, Oldtimer, Alpine and Trinity Trekker are in as well as some other friends. We're also trying to convince Strider, Nomad and Meerkat to play too.

The beauty of hanging on on the beach near the Pink Pony is that you can always stagger back up the dune for a cold one if the cooler plays out.

Last year, however, we just took margaritas in milk jugs.

Indian Cave is liable to be a madhouse. Check first; last year they were doing mountain bike races.
