Hey Roam
Are you talking about Cold mtn in Panthertown??? I have wanted to do that hike for a very long time... sound like a good one? There are tons of waterfalls and even a shelter where we could hike in.

Mountain Moma.........................Take Me Home
Cranberry Wilderness, WV

Of course, I found out tody that I have to fly to Oklahoma City next Wed/Thurs for 1 day of work, so if that 1 day turns into 2 days my hike may be shortened a bit :(

One word: Tehipite Valley. Wait, that's two words. I seem to have a credibility problem. It's actually two words unless you say it real fast and run them together like I do verbally. It's a seldom visited, rattlesnake infested Yosemite-like valley 18 miles from the nearest trailhead. Huge waterfalls cascading off sheer granite cliffs. Incredible trout fishing on the wild M.F. Kings River. Both lush ferns and deserty yucca plants share the same environment. Tehipite Dome, one of the largest chunks of granite in North America, towers above the valley. Hidden pictographs, lots of bears, eagles soaring along the vertical granite walls, and vultures waiting for unsuspecting backpackers. Overgrown trails and insanely steep terrain protect this incredibly beautiful wide valley. It's a great place to drink Tang®.

Here's a story of a lady who is lucky to be alive on her last trip to Tehipite Valley.

Lucky her. You can still see the #&%!$ on her face from kissing her ass goodbye during the fall.

I like this attitude:

Racina admits her injuries will slow her down for awhile. "They figure I won't be able to support weight on either leg for two months," she said. But she has hiked solo for years and has no plans to stop.

"It's more dangerous," she insisted, "to drive around Santa Rosa in a car."

Yeeehaw
First true backpack of the season: five days in Desolation Wilderness. Excellent! Leaving tonight and camping near the trailhead, getting permits in the a.m. and then, hittin' the trail!!!

Hope everyone else has a stellar weekend planned.

I'm going to Animazement 2007, an Anime convention in Durham, NC. Joy to me. My daughter is a big anime nut and asked if I would take her. Knowing there was no way on earth her mom would say yes, I told her I sure would as long as her mom said yes. She said yes. So I have 3 days of japanese animation and manga fun ahead of me. How do I rolleyes?

very tempting idea, ST, but I like spending time with her. Plus, maybe I will see some 20 something aged girls wearing anime/manga costumes. Have you ever seen any of them?

It's already started for me.

There's no school tonight.

We canceled baseball practice for Friday (had it scheduled, because only one player was leaving town).

I topped off the Saturn this morning (4 gallons); figuring this would be about as cheap as it's gonna be for a few. Hopefully, it will sit in the driveway for most of the holiday.

We have tons of work to do around the house. It'll be great to catch up.

Everyone going out this weekend; be safe and have fun!

Hey Rosey, you might want to call & speak w one of the rangers re snow conditions where you're headed. We did that & they recommended we not go back to Zone 29 where we had our permits for 1st night due to snow levels there... we were also scheduled to cross Dick's Pass, they wanted us to know we'd be postholing all the way over...

Be safe out there everyone!

Thanks, Wand. I called and scoped it out with them. Plan is to go in at Eagle Falls and head up to the Velmas, down to Rockbound and the Rubicon River and then back up and over to Dicks Lake but not do the pass.

Yeah, they told me there would be some post-holing involved. Oh well. I don't plan on the bringing the snowshoes so I'll just have to try and grunt out whatever sections require it.

Flagstones, slag sand. Got half the mountain sorted by size this morning. What's that pill just for backaches? ;)

Hope you all have wonderful days on the trail and cool breezy nights in the tent.

Hey Wand, did you talk with the East Entry unit? We are planning to go into zones 16, 11 and 17. The ranger just told us snow level was around 8K and anything higher, we'd likely be postholing.

Hi Rosey, I didn't call (was out of town this week), one of the other folks did. We're going in at Bayview TH, originally were headed to Dick's lake but now are headed to Velma's & do some dayhikes from there. Maybe we'll see ya' there! There'a bunch in our crowd, mostly all locals so it'd be good to hook up!

Talked with the rangers, again. They say the pass going up to the Velmas is thick with snow. I'm bringing the shoes to the trailhead and will decide then.

Spending the weekend at TNC's Hart Prairie Preserve just off the west side of Mt Humphrey's near Flagstaff with Volunteers for Outdoor Arizona. This is a very cool place, we build some fence, haul some wood out of the trees for fuels reduction, etc. Always a great weekend. Triple digit temps in Phx and just shy of freezing at the Preserve. Check it out http://www.voaz.org/

I'm going carcamping with my friend Stacey! There is a group of friends she meets up with on this weekend every year and she invited me, I am soooooo happy and excited! I can't sleep. I bought a new Ugly Stick! If my knees are still feeling this good, I might try a little rock climbing too. And I got a new camp chair, mine broke yesterday. I'm going to contribute by making a vegetable/barley soup in my dutch oven. Wish me luck on that. I dropped my camera off to be fixed, hopefully I'll be able to pick it up tomorrow morning.

This is where we are going: A high mountain Group Kamp in the Sierras just east of Big
Pine.

Anyone ever been there?
