You could always do seviche, and just marinate your fish in lemon and lime juices and spices for serveral hours. That kills the parasites and chemically cooks the fish.

Sushi...
for the record I'm not the biggest sushi fan. But, when I do sushi it's about the whole experience. Sitting at the bar, drinking copious amounts of sake and sapporo, interacting with the sushi chefs, and selecting the freshest stuff that sounds interesting to me. I guess Phaedrus meant this thread as a joke, so I'm kinda just putting my .02 in (yes, again). But if you really consider catching fish and eating them raw why do you bother to treat your water?

Works better than dynamite. Just dump wasabi in the water and the fish float to the top.
Hey, maybe we could give tbp a wasabi enema...

Biz, It's there to give the impression of a good, wholesome breakfast. The Bacon sushi is traditional to follow it, along with hash brown and gravy sushi. Try it!

Have ya tried the tin foil hats? They not only reduced leakage but keep the aliens from reading your mind as well.

Egg sushi is very tasty if done right. I used to eat it when I was a little kid and wouldn't eat the fish.

Sunny is right (of course). The raw fish is called sashimi when you eat it alone. Sushi refers to the specially treated rice, the rice doesn't even have to be packed together to be called sushi.

We were going to make some California rolls on the last Llama trip, but we got separated before we could.

It is very doable. You just have to get creative with the filling.

Cook sushi rice (medium size sushi rice - don't use just any rice) - 1 cup rice to 1 cup water. Add 1/4 cup seasoned rice vinegar per cup rice. Mix gently to fold in vinegar.

Spread thin layer of sushi rice over 1/2 sheet of nori (seaweed paper). Sprinkle on sesame seeds.

Turn over on sushi mat and put in filling. You could use avocado, cucumber, and for meat filling use canned tuna or filleted trout cooked in soy sauce.

Roll into a log and squeeze together with sushi mat.

Slice and serve with soy sauce and wasabi.

I took a one-night course on how to make sushi a couple of weeks ago and the instructor said you can put anything in a sushi roll. She said that, believe-it-or- not, Spam makes pretty good sushi at home.

Another variation with trout I would like to try is to cook some trout and add some chili sauce. Let it sit for a while and then use it as a filling.

I would also consider taking some canned crab meat and mayonnaise packets to mix up for filling.

Don't do this near your tent or get it all over your clothes. That could attract critters you don't want in the middle of the night.

I hope to try this one day...maybe on one of Mel's summer adventures.
