Recipe ideas?
Looking for lightweight meal ideas for an upcoming 7-day trip. We have a few of the freeze-dried backpacker's meals, but have questions about how good they're going to taste. Anyone have a favorite recipe?

boil in bag rice, fresh parmesan cheese (grated), crushed red pepper, garlic powder, pouch of tuna. put cheese, crushed red pepper and garlic powder in ziploc before packing. at camp: boil rice. pour rice in ziploc with cheese, pepper and garlic. mix together by squeezing outside of ziploc. allow cheese to melt. add tuna. mix again. eat from ziploc. no dishes to wash.

1 Snickers bar in wrapper

Gently remove wrapper, place in mouth. Ummmm. No baking required

Ramen noodles and a foil pouch of chicken. Add some potatoe flakes if you want it thicker/creamier.

Couldn't be easier.

I always thought the snickers wrappers were a bit plain.

Recipe Books
Listed in the order of recipes we like:

"The Back Country Kitchen" by Teresa Marrone

"High Trail Cookery" by Linda Frederick Yaffe

"Well-Fed Backpacker" by June Flemming

"Wilderness Ranger Cookbook" published by US Forest Service

"Simple Food for the Pack" published by the Sierra Club.

I've found all these books at REI, and list them in the order of our preference for the recipes. That is, we have used more recipes from the first than the last books.

We've done jambolya(yes with shrimp), pasta premavera, omelettes, scones and pizza(with our Bakepacker oven) and "Upside Down Sloppy Joes." for some examples.

E-mail me if you need more information.

Hope this helps.
