just wondering
Are there any places to backpack down in the New Orleans area?

Are you out of your fukkin mind?

I live near N.O. and I can't backpack within at least 500 miles of here except in the winter. The heat and humidity make backpacking and even car camping unbearable for at least half the year. Not to mention, it's totally flat.

Go to East Tennessee instead. Or head out to Colorado or somewhere else west of the humidity line.

I respectfully disagree with my esteemed collegue from Louisiana,,,,,you can hike from one end of Bourbon Street to the other,,,,,,I have done it several times,,,,,,always with a certain amount of amusement.

As long as you hold your nose. Ahhhhhh ... the sweet scent of beer and urine in Bourbon Street gutters.

Good for cleansing your stomach, after you chuck you cookies.

well, SH, the key is to not eat cookies before the stroll,,,,now chucking the beignets is completely acceptable

Beach Hiking
I hear beach hiking is quite acceptable too and gaining a large following..

The dunes get a bit tricky after the 4th Margherita, but the sand doesn't hurt too much when you fall..

Getting it out of your bathing suit is another subject all together that requires intense discussion over a raspberry, salted and frozen, margherita -

Any takers?

no
I'm from New Orleans originally. The closest backpacking destination I know of is the Black Creek National Historical Trail, near Wiggins, MS. (Desoto National Forest). It's too hot now, but will be nice again in the fall.

Bust my chops a little more
and I will ask God to make it rain on all your hiking trips for the rest of your lives...

sheesh...its not like I type like Ice Tea or even naked Ape...

no...them southern boys are not very friendly!!! Jgiles.

GearJunkie...thank you for a positive answer and suggestion...I think Dunadan and Steve Hiker are in need of a hug or something a bit more stimulating...and as for going to colorado vs New Orleans (did I spell it correct???) I will be there in July. This trip will be a company paid visit to N.O. and I will stay and play afterwards...hmmmmmm canoeing...yes that is doable. Purchasing one this weekend and N.O. is an 8 hour drive for me, so I can take all my stuff.

Cool and thanks for the suggestions.

I like the hike from the Court of Two Sisters up to Antoine's. It's mighty flat, but that's a Good Thing.

Wasn't tryin to be rude stikmon, but there's really no hikin down here this time of year unless you really love to sweat and flirt with heat stroke (like that weirdo rad-a-daddy).

And it stays so muggy at night you'll wet whatever you're sleeping ON (not in) from sweat even if you manage to fall asleep. To me that's the worst part, laying there in that heat at night.

I know you were joking
and I can take it and dish it out too...As for sweating...I had my sweat glands removed years ago. It was a hard operation...but it has saved me huge dollars on not needing to buy those stupid deodorant products...now I just use melted candle wax to clog up the pits.
