I wasn't sure. With a name like Father "Goose" I couldn't be sure. Haha!(again, this hints at a joke)

Minor Correction Ms. Skully... she's not writing a cookbook. She wants US to write a cookbook then SHE can collect the dough (so to speak).

As Truman Capote once said, "That isn't writing; that's typing."

99 bottles of beer on the trail
Someone 'splain this to me.

The evaporation rate of alchohol is higher than the evaporation rate of water. How do they make dehydrated beer? The laws of physics are reversed?

My advice is to quit drinking.

The alcohol was in small water soluble gelatin tabs. The powder was the rest of the ingredients.

I have not eaten meat since last week. after the euth class it just grosses me out.
but now I am stuck. i am tired of eating veggies and potatos. i had fish last night and that was good. i am not a big fish eater.
i have been eating an egg for breakfast and tuna for lunch.

this is all new to me, it may last or not but right now no meat. BLHUGH!!!

what about vitiams?

Ummmmm... tuna is meat ;-)
And if you are eating veggies, you are fine with vitamins..now start branching out...make pasta with sauces, learn to eat tofu :-)Veggie and bean burritos. Life is easy without meat, really. You can eat 75% of what you used to eat, just sans meat!

Awww...I can see why it grosses you out now! That would do a number on me, too.

What, had you been eating meat for breakfast, lunch & dinner before? LOL. Actually meat is a very inefficient protein source...it puts a lot of stress on the planet to convert all those grains into all that meat. There are tons of other protein sources that are a lot better for you. Btw if you ask me, fish is a kind of meat; just not red meat.

This has a lot of protein suggestions:
http://veggietable.allinfo-about.com/articles/protein.html

Aside from that, what vitamins do you think you're not getting? Really, there's nothing you can't get from a vegetarian diet...you just have to figure out what you need, and what the sources are.

Some like the fake meat (burgers/chicken/etc) things. Try Morning Star or Amy's. You would be surprised at how close they come. Maybe even a little scared.

Maple, I am not a vegetarian, but I don't eat a lot of meat.

I only like the fat part on the chicken [skin].

didnt' eat a steak for almost 2 years now.

I don't eat burgers. Well besides after a trip when everyone is craving a fat burger.

Can't stop completely because I love seafood, especially sushi.

I have never tried to completely stop, so it's not hard for me to not eat meat. I think if you try too hard you're going to want it more.

okay, now that I've talked about it..now I want a medium/rare piece of prime rib.

Get yourself a good cookbook Mapes. We eat meat only occasionally unless there's venison in the freezer. I have a few vegetarian cookbooks and make the recipes in them. Lentils and beans are my friend. =)

Be careful with how much tuna you consume. Your mercury levels can skyrocket. Doesn't mater what quality you eat either; I have a friend who eats albacore tuna everyday for lunch. His mercury levels were so high the doctor told him he had to stop eatting tuna. Cilantro is supposed to counter the mmercury in fish somewhat. I make cilantro pesto to go on my tuna sandwiches.

Boca Burgers make me wanna hurl. I hate the ones that try to taste/look like meat...veggie burgers should taste like what they are (beans/grains/veggies).

LMAO @ bearmagnet...scary, no kidding! Now that would be funny if they really were meat.

You'd do better to eat cashews :-) If you eat peanuts, get them organic..they use a lot of pesticides on them. And cashews taste sooooooooooo good! ;-)

that's cool StoveStomper

it was weird seeing this thread - I was a contributor to Christine's book and some of the photos in Lipsmackin' Vegetarian Backpackin' were actually taken in Canada on a canoe trip with us... it seems like yesterday but this thread reminds me of how long ago it was

incidentally she's really cool (she does a lot for trails and donates a good deal of $$) and you guys were pretty rough on her

they have a really wacky website at www.booksbyconners.com and a new book coming out for Scouts
