Why's it any different for the "poor"?”

Generally speaking the poor live in higher crime areas. This allows them the right of self-defense (no liberty or the pursuit without life), in addition (though unrelated) many times legislation is passed to ban the sale of low cost firearms (oft called saturday night specials) which precludes low income folks from buying a handgun.

Not sure about the specifics, but at first glance cant see how this'll be bad. I say good news.

Just as Birch says plus the most strict areas for gun control are usually the inner cities where the poorest people live. Who needs a gun more to defend themselves John Q. Projects or John Q. Suburb? Gun control was founded on racism and continues to this day.

Though to be honest, Virginia gun laws are so lax and poorly enforced it won't make much practical difference to anything.

Actually Virginia has become safer due to intervention by the NRA. The NRA has pushed for law enforcement to be tougher on existing laws rather than writing new ones. Instead of busting people with illegal guns on state charges they would push for a felony charge. They pushed for Virginia near DC, which has one of the highest crime rates and they donated half the money it would take to start the new stricter program. The police started pushing for the felony charges and crime went down.

Just curious - how much does a shotgun cost on average?

There were two "amusing" points in a Post follow up piece: on of the defendents(?) was complaining that her shotgun has to have the trigger locked and empty of ammo.

I don't see a trigger lock as being any issue and do y'all keep your weapons loaded?

The other one was that of the half dozen defendents/complainants, only one had tried to register a handgun in DC. He is the only reason the case wasn't thrown out.

Weapons loaded and locked in a quick access vault. When I am at the lake my shotgun (run from 200 up) is loaded and no trigger lock in an accessible location. If there are small children around I will secure it with a trigger lock.

UK Gun Crimes Soar After Gun Ban

Sunday, August 26, 2007 8:36 PM Article Font Size

Gun crimes in England have almost doubled since 1997, when a ban on firearms began.

According to the Sunday Times of London, crimes in which guns were used numbered 4,671 in 2005-06.

Also, government officials report that most gun crime is committed by children and teenagers under 18 years old.

David Davis, the shadow home secretary, told the Telegraph: "What this shows is that the majority of these crimes are committed by youngsters under 18.

"The government's policy has failed with the group most responsible for this increase in crime. It is long past time the Government stopped believing its own propaganda, and took measures to get a grip."

DANG the Republicans were right after all...(LOL)

Nice!

My answer to the question on the cost of a average shotgun cost would be around 350.00 dollars. That is a average, you can get them lower, and higher. But what ever you do, just get one. Or two.

Got rid of two lowlifes in one month! Give that guy a medal for saving tax dollars.
Saved both the costs of the trials and housing of the criminals for several years.

Of course the downside is the Party of Felons (Dims) lost two votes.

Man in wheelchair fatally shoots home intruder

AP

DALLAS — Dallas police say a man in a wheelchair disarmed and fatally shot a home intruder with the intruder's own gun.

The shooting happened just before 3 a.m. today at the man's apartment in the Village Oaks Apartments in the Fruitdale neighborhood, south of downtown Dallas.

Investigators say the man was able to wrestle the gun away from the intruder and shoot him. The suspected burglar died a short time later at Baylor University Medical Center.

......more.....no charges will be filed.

A convenience store clerk in Ingram turned the tables on a knife-carrying robber yesterday, shooting and seriously wounding the would-be thief, police said.

Ingram Police Chief John Doherty said the clerk may have fired at the robber inside and then outside the 7-Eleven store at 10 W. Prospect Ave.

"He shot the robber several times. I'm not sure how many," Chief Doherty said in an interview.

The gunfire began in the store about 4:30 a.m. and then apparently continued outside, he said.

Chief Doherty declined to identify either the clerk or the robber. He said the would-be thief is 20 years old and the clerk is in his mid-20s.

Emergency crews transported the robber to Allegheny General Hospital, where he underwent surgery, Chief Doherty said.

He said the clerk may have had a less serious injury.

"I believe the clerk was cut," the chief said.

Chief Doherty said the preliminary investigation showed that the clerk had a permit to carry a firearm. He said he knew this particular clerk because he had been robbed previously and Ingram police investigated that case.

7-Eleven has had a no-weapons policy for store employees since the 1970s. Chief Doherty said he did not know whether the Ingram clerk violated a corporate rule by carrying his gun.

An employee at the 7-Eleven store in Ingram referred questions to a manager, who was not in yesterday.

Corporate offices of the Dallas-based chain were closed yesterday because of the Christmas holiday. But 7-Eleven executives at the corporate level have said that one weapon carried by a store employee was one too many.

The 7-Eleven chain, with more than 32,000 stores worldwide, has instead tried to deter robberies by keeping only small amounts of cash in registers and by using security cameras.

Working like charm! LOL! A gun vs. a knife is perfectly acceptable equitable force. You can cover 20' and stab someone faster than they can draw a gun so it's very reasonable to shoot a knife wielding suspect. I would have to say that shooting the guy "several times" and he still goes to the hospital would show that the clerk either needs to A) get to the range more to practice failure drills or B) stop carrying the little Kel-Tec and get a real gun.

If 7-11 fires the clerk, they will never get any of my business for life.

LOL...yeah private ownership of guns is unnecessary.... So says Jamal James 19 years of Twin Cities, Florida

Harold Crown, a 64-year-old Niceville man who fought off three men who broke into his home Dec. 18, suffered a mild heart attack during the battle, an Okaloosa County Sheriffs Office report said.

Jamal James, a 19-year-old deputies believe to be one of the attackers, was arrested a couple days after the incident.

Crown fired two rounds from a 45-caliber revolver during the home invasion-style attack and James showed up at Twin Cities Hospital later the same evening suffering a bullet wound to the shoulder.

Six years after new rules made it much easier to get a license to carry concealed weapons, the number of Michiganders legally packing heat has increased more than six-fold.

But dire predictions about increased violence and bloodshed have largely gone unfulfilled, according to law enforcement officials and, to the extent they can be measured, crime statistics.

The incidence of violent crime in Michigan in the six years since the law went into effect has been, on average, below the rate of the previous six years. The overall incidence of death from firearms, including suicide and accidents, also has declined.

In a Democracy, the citizens get what they vote for. When the citizens vote in liberal representatives that pass laws that predispose that the government is the sole means of protecting yourself from home invaders, and that using self defense is illegal, then they got exactly what they deserve. A government that jails honest homeowners for just protecting their own lives.

Obama is of the same ilk. He endorse a statewide handgun ban in Illinois once. He always votes for laws to give criminals more rights.

Chicago City Corporation Counsel Mara Georges has told two City Council committees shes confident Chicagos anti-gun laws will stand.

Georges tells Aldermen the Supreme Courts decision on Washington, D.C.s handgun ban shouldnt apply to Chicago, because previous Supreme Court rulings have said Second Amendment "right to bear arms" doesnt apply to local governments, like Cities.....

Man that's pretty tragic. I hope the defenders get through it OK. Even when you are given no other option killing another human being has got to mess with your head. But hey, better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6.
