Ya it sucks but what can ya do?

But hey there is still lots of Vac time for me left 36 days to be exact!!!!!YES!!!!!!!

And lots of weekends left!

“Crazy Mike: Only 36 days of vacation left? That sucks! I only work about 5 months out of the year. Really. I work a 12 hour rotation, 3 days on 4 days off then 4 days on and 3 days off every two weeks. After you add 9 holidays, 1 personal day and 3 weeks vacation I only work about 5 months of the year.

This year will be alot different though. My wife got accepted into Registered Nursing School. She will be quitting her current job and going part-time while in school. That means I have to work a second job until she graduates next May. That really sucks in the short term but life goes on even if I don't get to enjoy the outdoors as much as I use too for awhile.”

“Mike, I know the feeling.... the last time I was NOT in the wilderness was Oct 26-28, 2001.

I ended up flying to Chicago for SnowDude's sisters wedding, walked around town because everyone said "you have to go to Niketown", I wore boots (not hiking boots) and my feet hurt so we had to get a cab. I'm so lost in the city.

“I know who you feel. Years ago (before Susan) I went backpacking, rock climbing, fishing, or something EVERY Weekend. Now I get out about once or twice a month. I miss those days. In 1995 I had over 100 bag nights! Now I get about 35 per year.

“Well, HPM and I took a nice evening walk to the park and I fell down in a washout I couldn't see. Where there used to be only an inch drop was now at least 4 inches and over the edge of the walkway I went. Now I have a nice sore ankle and knee. Fun. HPM's been working on his '48 ford f-1 delivery truck.”

“Another weekend (Thurs, Fri, Sat) on the Superior Trail. Temp in the teens at night, just a little snow, leaves almost gone, and some of that old nasty wind from out of the north. That Marmot Helium is toasty warm and I actually believe I've been colder sleeping at home.”

“I'm getting ready to do a kickass dayhike at my local stomping grounds. That's about all the hiking I'll be getting in this weekend.

My weekend hasn't been all that bad though. I turned 40 on Fri, fixed the brakes on my van yesterday and now they work better than ever, and last night went to a music jam and got some pretty good compliments from a few kickass musicians.

Speaking of kickass...I do have some ass to kick, though. Dub/wvbackpacker, who posted on this thread about getting MSR's Missing Link for a steal a week ago, posted on the other site that he got 4 of them for sale. I was the only serious poster wanting one of them and I would've paid what it took to get one. Turns out he posted that thread the night before going to TC4 and never visited the thread since. Well, I'll bet a million bucks he got rid of all 4 at TC4...and left those wanting them on the other site, the first folks offered them mind you, up in the air. I wanted one so bad!!! That rascal!”
