I received this via email today can you beat the price for the package this company is offering. I haven't had a chance to compare prices but thought this might be fun for some of you guys.

That would be nice if I was just starting out.

Interesting idea.

Looks like the whole package is missing shelter - no tent, tarp or bivy that I could see? Even when they wrap it up at the end the shelter is not addressed.

Part of the fun for me is building my gear list bit by bit and getting consumed with the choices on occasion.

I would describe this kit as more of a lightweight kit rather than ultralight (bring on the critics!).

Big Coop here is the shelter:

The Bibler Hooped Bivy Sack is our shelter of choice for a lightweight place to sleep. The “hoop” is a Delrin rod sewn into the sack so there is nothing to set up and no parts to lose. A double stormflap and rain gutter have no sewn seams, so they can’t leak. Weighing only 1lb 7oz, you can’t find a nicer, lighter weight place to seek shelter from the storm

It had "The Bibler Hooped Bivy Sack". I don't like all the stuff--who needs a three piece cooking set-- but if someone had done that for me when I was starting out I would have saved a bundle on all the mistakes I made. Because I buy for two make that mistakes times two.

My Bad! Thanks Ewker - I was looking for an independent paragraph. Now it makes more sense - and with a bivy it seems to toss it back in the ultralight realm.

One nit to pick. TNF Prophet-45 is listed by TNF as being 3lb 14oz. by the manufacturer (in medium which is the smaller size... so the ad is off by 12oz, not insignificant for ultralighters!).

I don't know if the other weights are accurate. (I've been shopping for a light weight backpack lately.)

I like the way this ad follows the ultralight theory.

No first aid
No map
No compass
No matches
No Bug Spray
No TP
No Whistle
No Rope
No KY Jelly

I mean this list is incomplete.

Are G00SE and I the only two people on earth who truly appreciate duct tape???

Wow, You two are really bonding. It could get to be a sticky situation.

Duct tape rocks.

It's kinda like the force.
It has a light side and a dark side and it binds us all together.

Drop the water filter, headlamp, stove, and cookset and you will be more ultralight. You don't need those extraneous gizmos and gadgets.

Hell yeah, drop that extraneous stuff. If you just stay at home watching TV, you don't need anything.

Actually Kleety, in that case a TV and a home come in awfully handy.

Nor does duct tape make good underpants. Taking them off in the evening is not fun.
