Denatured AlcoholView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 15 of 15 messages posted.
“My son made one of those pepsi can stoves and wants to use it this weekend. I need a small container for the fuel. Is it safe to put denatured alcohol in a Nalgene bottle - the 4oz white plastic type?” 8:40:21 AM 5/16/02 “Yes. Just make sure you mark it well so no one drinks it by accident.” 9:00:11 AM 5/16/02 “Thanks Skully” 9:02:23 AM 5/16/02 “No prob.” 9:03:16 AM 5/16/02 “screw the denatured stuff..put some hair on his chest...have him take a quart nalgene bottle of Everclear. It'll cook his food with or without the stove!” 10:09:44 AM 5/16/02 “Maybe for me on a trip thats not with the Boy Scouts. Thats the good thing about scout trips - save the booze weight.” 10:16:17 AM 5/16/02 “A 20 oz. soda bottle also works well for holding fuel.” 10:20:08 AM 5/16/02 “*scratches head*...BSA trips are where i learned to carry booze.” 10:24:23 AM 5/16/02 “I used the 20oz soda bottle as well with no problems” 7:23:42 PM 5/16/02 “20 oz? You are kidding right? How long does 20 oz last? A week? How much fuel do these stoves use? The stove may be light weight, but 20 oz of fuel is 1.4 pounds. (Do the math)” 7:39:07 PM 5/16/02 “Just because it will hold 20oz dosent mean that you have to fill it up.” 7:44:21 PM 5/16/02 “Good point. I don't like having that extra space in my pack either.” 7:48:09 PM 5/16/02 “I have used the small nalgenes before with no problem. Lately I have been using a 8oz. hydrogen peroxide bottle, holds enough for a 2-3 day trip or a 1-2 day trip for two.” 8:42:29 PM 5/16/02 “Hey, we need a good boyscout to carry our alcohol on long hikes. What a damned good idea!” 8:48:51 PM 5/16/02 “Yeah, who needs food anyway. It's not really backpacking unless your eating grubs and berries.” 9:38:49 PM 5/16/02
