Anyone just love the idea of coming into camp in the evening and having a nice long drag off a cigarette? I know smoking makes its harder from me to breath while hiking, but its just too integral to the whole experience for me to stop. I've made a compromise recently, by reducing my smoking to 5 cigs a day. Now I can smoke and breath!

Anyone else?

As the TT'ers who I've been on hikes with can attest to, I enjoy a cigar around the campfire in the evening. Not to mention the Maker's Mark. Just another part of an enjoyable experience.

I'm known to hike with a few cigars also, but I don't smoke cigs.

I quit smoking years ago but I often smoke when backpacking. I know it makes no sense to make breathing harder when hiking but I enjoy it and can leave it behind without withdrawl because it is a different environment.

I do too put the butts in my pocket. Other people's too.

In the West backcountry smoking restrictions are often in effect during fire season.

Five cigs. a day? Come on! If you must have one in camp . . . keep it to that one. And only smoke when you are out hiking . . . pretty soon it should be remarkably easy to quit all together.

I'm one of those on-again, off-again smokers. I do enjoy a cigarette or two... (or more) on the trail. It's somewhat relaxing.

And, yes OPIE, I too carry my butts out. I've hiked w/ other TTrs that smoke and have seen each and every one of them carry their butts out, too.

I hear people claim that they "enjoy" a good smoke. I smoke cuz I'm addicted... Yet when I reached Paintbrush Divide in the Teets, I sat down and REEEELY enjoyed a smoke. I hadn't had a smoke break all morning, and the view was spectacular - maybe that's why I enjoyed it so.

I smoke almost as much in the backcountry as anywhere else. I don't (often) smoke while underway, tho. I catch up around camp... I can drink coffee and smoke cigs til noon. Smokes are good with beer, too.

I too am a cigar man but don't limit it to the trail or campsite.I quit cigs about 7 years ago then after about three years smoke free I figured I could puff a couple of stogies without any effect. The $10 cigars were awefully good and before I knew it I was hooked and broke.I now smoke five Hava-Tampa Jewels almost every day which by the way is worse than Cigarettes.I can say that I really don't think my smoking hurts me on the trail, breathing I have no problem with it's the legs that give out on me first.

They banned smoking in the Beartooths last summer as one of the fire restrictions.

Spam, the biggest problem with ex-cigarette smokers smoking cigars is that they still tend to draw the smoke into their lungs. I've never smoked cigarettes, and so I just puff on the cigars. Some of the smoke does still get into my lungs, but nowhere near as much as a cigarette smoker draws in.

I think I am one of the few people who likes the smell of second hand smoke. Not stale, old crusty, bottled up inside a building second hand smoke. Someone smoking a fresh cigarette in fresh air. To me, this is more enjoyable than smoking.

I can't stand cigarette smoke, indoors or out. Smokers can do their thing, just not around my airspace. What gets me is smokers flicking their butts on the trail like they're biodegradable or something. It's more than just littering; it's dangerous under the dry conditions, even if there isn't a fire restriction in place.

I dearly love a good mild cigar, or (or a dip of copenhagen for that matter), particularly in the woods. My problem is that every time I give in and have one, I'm totally addicted again for 6 months to a year.

I find a good Dunhill around the campfire to be quite relaxing at the end of the day, along with a 50/50 mix of hot cocoa and Rumple Minze.

I see you are a man of good taste, FG. Dunhills are damn good, but a little pricey for a cheapskate line me.

Wish I could order them by the barrel, like Mark Twain did.

I quit smoking years ago and ever since even a wiff of smoke makes me nauseous. I sincerely doubt I could tolerate one in camp even if I wanted to. I have a hard enough time trying to tolerate it when someone else has one in camp.

I'll smoke in the outdoors iff'n I want. Thats the beauty of "heading out." We have enough rules in the "real world" to contend with. It never ceases to amaze me that someone will get "disgusted" by someone's second hand smoke around a fucking campfire!
