While in Huntsville, AL yesterday I decided to do some geocaching after work. I had just located the "Monte Sano Preserve" geocache and was headed back out when I happened upon a horrifing site. I rounded a bend in the trail and right there within 6 feet of me were two guys engaged in a most disgusting activity.

I have got to get me some bear bells to put on my daypack! It will take years of therapy to remove those images from my brain.

isn't that one of the premises of geocaching . . . putting something in and taking something out?

HO, HO there, Geezr!
Hey Leatherneck, next time you're in Huntsville, check out the 'Waterline Amphitheater' cache on the Monte Sano Landtrust. I put it there and it's an interesting hike to get to it.

I tend to take nothing and leave nothing. In this case I have had horrible images "thrust" upon me, so to speak.

Leatherneck, the easiest way I can tell you to get to it is to take the Almhouse trail to Three Caves, then turn left at the Waterline trail. The cache is just off the trail, about 1 1/4 miles up, very accessible. It can be slippery if it has been raining, so watch your step. You can check out the hint at www.geocaching.com. If you're at all familiar with the trails on the Landtrust, the hint should tell you exactly where it is.

Leatherneck, if you don't like the Almhouse trail, you definitely won't like Waterline! Do you backpack?

Holy Moly! Leatherneck: Did you say anything to them?

I hope they were freaked out enough to keep it off the trail in the future.

Sadly, ped, that's probably part of the thrill for them.

I've been lucky, in all my time hiking on Monte Sano, I've never come across anybody doing anything untoward.

If people what to do things like that in the woods, it's okay with me. Just go further off the trail.

OPIE, I don't think there is any overnight backpacking on Monte Sano...no official overnighting anyway.

My youngest brother took a young lady up to the stone cuts last year and spent the night up there with her. You're not supposed to do that though, lol....

Leatherneck, which trail were you on?? I live in H'ville and want to avoid that area!! I hike at Monte Sano a lot.

Yes, the Waterline Trail is a "little" steep at times.

OPIE, you could easily make an entire day out of hiking the trails on Monte Sano. I do a 5-mile loop (in about an hour and a half) on weekends to help me keep in shape for backpacking. You can make it as easy or strenuous as you wish. Overnight camping is officially frowned upon.

I had turned off the Railroad bed trail onto the Almhouse Trail. That's why I don't know if I can handle the Almhouse Trail again. I'm skeert the images will come flooding back (no pun intended) if I pass that spot in the trail again.

Father Goose

Something like: "For crying out loud, take it somewhere else. Kids use these trails."

Bit might be right, they wanted the danger of being caught and liked the idea of having a powerful effect on someone(in that case, mebbe the right response would be something like... "Golly! if mine was that little and ugly, I'd be damned if I'd have it out where people can see it")

Reminds me of a story a friend told me. When she was in high school in NYC. One day she was sitting in a crowded subway with a streetwise friend of hers. A genuine trencoat flasher stood right in front of them and her friend shouted: "hey flasher why don't you pull your coat back so everyone can get a good laugh!"
