Look for lots of snow. stick to trails facing the south or west. The east side of the Sierra Crest will have less snow then the west side. Very few lakes and they're scattered, it's mostly canyons and where the canyons are heavily forested, expect lots of snow.

Thanks, Dunk! Are there any places of particular interest?

Road conditions
I have climbed Highland, Disaster, Stanisaus, and Sonora peaks. All are relatively easy with great views. There are a few fishing lakes too. You might want to check with Cal-Trans. The following was as of 10:30 A.M. on Thursday May 23:

SR 4
[SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA]
NO TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS ARE REPORTED FOR THIS AREA.

[CENTRAL CALIFORNIA & SIERRA NEVADA]
IS CLOSED FROM 7.2 MI WEST OF THE JCT OF SR 89 TO THE JCT OF SR 89
(ALPINE CO) - DUE TO SNOW

Thanks, Keema, I just talked to the ranger, and she told me they just got about a foot and a half of snow a few days ago. I might need to rent snowshoes...

Hey buddy - sorry I can't come along! I love that area. I forget what part of that wilderness I hiked in but it is all beautiful. Have a great trip and provide us with a good trip report.

Thanks, Pepster! I am leaving from Ebbetts Pass on Monday. The ranger tells me that the PCT may not be well-maintained around there right now, as the rangers haven't hit the area yet. That tells me I'll be ALONE in a big way.

This is my first big trip out this year, so I'm stoked!
