It's practically here, the almighty three-day weekend. Saturday morning, I'm heading up to the Catskills with some old college buds for the entire three days. I'm super-stoked and can't stop thinking about my little adventure, as I know several of you are about your own trips. Here's wishing a good time to all! Cheers! :-)

I know that you all will be increduled with surprise, but I think that it is supposed to rain on Saturday and Sunday here, while I am at girl scout camp with a mob of kids.

Opie - I'm not sure what I'd call it. Noise?

LyndyS - I'm also in Jersey, last I checked it was only a 30% chance of rain for Saturday and slightly less for southern NY (Catskills).. or so they say.

Artex, which weather websites do you go to? I checked two places for the area near Monticello NY, and it looks like showers and thunderstorms are more likely than not.

LyndyS, I thought that was some kind of requirement for scouting events?

):-(

I guess that I have been very lucky in the past. Last year we had a sudden short thunderstorm right after we got off the boats on the lake. Then it got windy, which blew all the bugs away. The weekend weather was cool but near perfect.

When i was in scouts living in Huntsville..the local farmers would sponsor a campout for us...doing so gaurentee'd a good 2-3 inches over a 2 day period.
Sometimes the farmers liked to play tricks on us..and would schedule trips in January, on top of monte santo...ever had your tent ropes freeze and break..and the only thing holding the tent up is a sheet of inch thick ice?

The summer our troop went to the Grand Canyon during a drought, it rained. I'm telling you, it's some kind of law.

Oh Scully, you have to be joshing us! Rain in the Grand Canyon? LOL, it must of been winter.

Every girl scout campout I'm been on has had exceptional weather. We went on Halloween weekend once, and we had gorgeous blue skies and 70 degrees at 8 pm when we went to do our campfire songs and smores.

Umm, I mean winter during that summer.

My backyard campout was in the middle of October, for my scouts, and the same thing. 70 degrees around the campfire. The girls were adorable in their footy pajamas sings songs and doing skits.

It's snowing here right now! We're going up in the Beartooths and they're really getting dumped on. So i guess we're going skiing.

Geez, and Aero is having snow in summer. We didn't have snow in winter. I think they said that we had 3.5 inches of snow this past winter.

LyndyS, it was actually quite bizarre. We all just pretended like it wasn't happening and kept right on walking. It was light but lasted the entire morning. We don't talk about it. It frightens us. (I'm telling you, it's some kind of law!)

LnydyS - I think I'm more to the east than you.. I usually go to Accuweather.com, I checked for Woodstock, NY, dosen't look too bad. Hope the weather holds up for you and the little ones..!

Thanks, Artex, I'll add Accuweather.com to my sites that I check.

Scully, maybe it is a certain bad luck person that is on every hike with you (gee, who could that be?)

I have to go into the city with my family on Tues. If there is an "incident" and I stop posting here, you all have a great time without me. Pray that all the terrorists are incapacitated. These are nervous times for those of us in the NY area.

Mammoth got 10" new snow Mon/Tues, and they extended closing weekend to Jun 1-2.. We're headed back there for 3 days of snowboarding. Got e-mails from some of the people I rode with, inviting us to canoe/hike in the evenings. Fun, fun, fun!

Yesterday, I set up my RV at Point Mallard Park in Decatur, AL. The Hot Air Balloon Festival is there this weekend and 50K peeps are expected. Should be a good time.

We'll also head over to the Sipsey Wilderness this weekend for some dayhiking. Can't wait.

Artex--careful up in them Catskills, i saw a report yesterday (which I think someone posted here) that there was a fatal rock slide up near New Paltz...on one of those mountains that I can't spell right.

tahoe--let me know if you need dinner suggestions for SF, the mother-in-law was in town last week, so I ate really well.

Everyone else--have a great one...I'm still knee deep in visitor mania this weekend, so it looks like i will only be day hiking.

Bongofreak - thanks man, yeah I saw that story. The buds I'm going with are a bit out of shape so we're going to do an easier route where the cliffs aren't as steep. That story was pretty tragic, first fatal accident near my area I've heard about in a while. :-(

Glad you liked it, Skully. I actually saw Al Capp (of L'il Abner fame) on the Tonight Show years ago. Johnny Carson asked him how he pronounced Joe Btfsplk's last name.

He said, "Oh, that's easy! It's 'Joe <raspberry>!'"

Going to the Sierras.
We're heading to the southeastern Sierras this weekend. We'll head over Cottonwood Pass to Big Whitney Meadow and set up basecamp there. On Sunday we'll hike out to Rocky Basin Lakes and/or Funston Lake.

It'll be great getting out there.

Artex-

Sounds like a freak occurance...when I first heard about it, I thought it was a rock climbing accident (which wouldn't have been as surprising).

Safe travels.
