My TT B-day

What are the other TT b-days around here? or how long do you think you've been around? I know that there are some that have been here for quite some time. Maybe Matt can tell us who the very first ever poster was . . . it would be like opening an Egyptian tomb and revealing the mystery.”

“I was a pretty good skier. I can do everything on a board that I did on skis, except the big jumps. I xctry skiid for awhile in the local mountains before I started the "consecutive weekend" trips. My skis were defective and didn't glide. I switched skis with a friend, and watched him struggle. Gave the skis to Goodwill when I moved and never replaced them. I want to do some backcountry skiing next.”

The oldest other person I can think of is Nigal. But that is because he and I used to get into rowdy flaming fights on Christianity and Gun Control.

“I started posting here in February or March of last year about a week after I found it when a troll posted a link on another hiking message board.

My first post was on a thread about unprepared hikers and I got flamed for suggesting that you needed to bring less emergency gear for a summertime day-hike in a local forest than you would for a winter summit attempt in the NH Presidential Range.

Next, I posted a question on a new piece of gear I was considering and got two whole replies, neither of them particularly helpful. I learned quickly that while this was a backpacker’s board, backpacking related topics were generally frowned upon.

I think my third post was on some environmental thread (ANWR?) where I doubted that environmental protection could be an issue among backpackers. Boy, was I naive.


I thought Trail-er Park was Tarpy at first too. Now I know she was just a troll.

In 1999 I went on 6 TT hikes. Joshua Tree, Mt. Rodgers, LlamaRama, Deliverance Hike, PNW @ Mt St Helens and a winter hike in NC where I met Radagast. So I guess he got on line in winter of 99. Then a promotion took away most of my dead computer time, so I pop in and out every now and then. Does that make me a lurker?
