“Jazz - there's quite a few off-topic posts here, but also a wealth of backpacking related ones with very good information from a lot of very knowledgable people.

My advice (for what it's worth) is to just read the backpacking posts and avoid all the other ones entirely, at least for a few months. You'll no doubt start to gravitate towards the folks you like more and converse with them more often, which may bleed over into the off-topic posts.

The off-topics can be very funny, and actually enhance the site (in my humble opinion) by strenghtening bonds with other regulars here. Somebody once made the point that you don't just talk about backpacking around a campfire, but a variety of topics... the same goes on here.
