Me too!
Hey wildflower! I'm new here too so I might as well introduce myself in this thread as well. I'm Flowbee (it's an old fraternity nickname, after the home haircutting device, in case you were wondering...yes...it means what you think it does.... Anyways, I live in Houston, TX, far from any mountains . I look forward to getting to know all of you better, even though you will think I'm strange...everyone does...

Hi everyone! More Mid-Atlantic scout people! If you have met TownDawg (how does he do it?), is he the reason you are posting here? This man manages to recruit more new trailtalkers, even on Artex, Violin, Ice Tea and my home turf! I don't think any of us have recruited trailtalkers. We have PA scoutmasters who have hiked with us on the WRT and BFT in PA, but they were recruited by some other more outgoing trailtalkers, not me.

Well Hi to wildflower the scout leader (I'm a girl scout leader of 7 year olds) and Hi to Flowbee of Houston where I barely managed not to be moved to (but it will probably happen eventually). It is not that I don't like Houston (hate the humidity though), but I like not having to move.

Here's that reference WF...

(you Made me do it, LOL)

I met him at the candy store.
He turned around and smiled at me.
Ya get the picture? (Yes, we see)
That's when I fell for the leader of the pack.

My folks were always puttin' him down.
Down! Down!
They said he came from the wrong side of town.
They told me that he was bad,
but I knew that he was sad.
And thats why I fell for the leader of the pack.

There's more, but I think you get the picture, LOL

Nah... LOL

But I was raised by bartenders and folk musicians, and play guitar a little bit myself... so when I first got on the 'Net I collected a ton of lyrics websites.

Like this one

And when I run across an interesting quote, I'll copy&paste it somewhere. That Copy&paste thing is too easy.

I actually make an effort to collect Astronomical acronyms...

Hello to you
Wild Flower Try Stokes State Park in NJ. Its in the NW tip of NJ, it is the highpoint of NJ and the AT cuts the corner there. It is a cool place and not too far from NYC. Welcome to the funny farm.

Silly Stikmon, High Point State Park is the highest point in NJ. It is north of Stokes.

Stokes has some nice campsites in the main camping area, and the group camping area is nice. but don't go to Stillwell Pond, it was like a dead tree swamp last year. The main camping area is usually booked ahead on weekends, maybe a month in advance. If you have a canoe, you can canoe there on the lake. And a creek runs near some of the campsites. I don't think that there was swimming at the lake though.

state parks
in Nj have the most cops that i have ever seen. my sister and I stayed at a park (i think in clinton)and all day and all night cops drive up and down the campsite road. thats another reason i dont do state parks (family camp grounds)
i like private camp grounds much better. but it was a great area.

My mom's husband's son (I guess that makes him my stepbrother, but geez, I barely know him) was picked up by the Florida cops a few years agoa while he was staying in a state park down there. It seems that it's common practice there for the cops to drive through the parking lot and run all the car tags through their database and see if anything pops up. Well, they got him for a failure to appear on a 10-year-old traffic ticket. Right before he left for Desert Storm, his girlfriend got a parking ticket. He didn't have time to take care of it, and the military assured him everything would be taken care of. So he never thought about it again. Normally, it would have been past the statute of limitations, but he did something else down there (don't remember what, it was minor) and this old failure-to-appear warrant popped up again. So yeah, sometimes it's best to avoid state parks.

Or at least get someone else to drive.

Clinton? Would that be car-campin' at Spruce Run?

Not that I would ever admit to car camping on a backpacking website but...

I may have gotten a $75 ticket for beer at Spruce Run. They do have a big sign at the gate explaining the no alcohol policy but we didn't see it - otherwise we would have hidden the beer when the stupid cop circled around. They stole our beer too.

Oh. Welcome to the monkey house by the way.

I've never seen the police at a state park in Florida.

Lots of rangers, never police. Might be a local thing.

I paid the ticket to the local municipality in a state park. It's a revenue thing.

LOL, Violin. There seems to be a lot of drinking incidents in your repetoire. Has anyone else noticed this? There was a story about hanging a food bag only a few feet off the ground, due to a little after dinner drinking.

Violin, you just need to become a State Park patrolman and then you can have beer at your campsite, and you don't even have to buy it.
