I don't know about any of you guys but I personally do not care to much for these threaded discussions. I much like the type of forums that the rest of the world is using like phpbb. These threaded are a lot less powerful than the new style of forums. I mean you can add signatures to your post, private message people, and there is just so much more you could do. Maybe you all like this type of system which is fine, just my thoughts.

I find I like both. Something about the magazine site turns me off though.

I guess I like alot of the features that those systems have compared to really no features on this site. I looked and couldn't even find a way to search for a post by a particular user. No smilies, no avatars.

So we're so supposed to immediatly drop this board in favor of the "superior forum" at immahiker.com right? LOL! Nice try.

That's not what I was trying to say at all. Everyone knows my site is just for fun. I have been on this site for about a year now and I was quite a regular(don't have much time now). Anyway I was looking into turning my site into a community forum and when I was thinking about it I thought about how much trailtalk would be better with a similar message board. So don't point fingers please. Jesus Christ

If this format is so bad, why can't you lure everybody over to your site? I think this site is busy because of the number of people on it and the flow of the thread format.

the beauty of this format is that active threads stay at the top. In some other formats the active threads are hard to find in the inactive threads.

I'm not trying to lure anyone over to my site. Who said I was? I was just making a suggestion that it would be nice to see trailtalk using that type of message board. I didn't even mention my website. Can't someone make a simple suggestion around here without getting attacked. It's a fact that those forums are much more popular, and I just thought once people got use to a board like that they would appreciate it alot more.

Look man I don't remember you but I have had this username forever! Don't give me that #&%!$. My site is for pure fun. See any banners? Didn't think so. Why would I be so worried about getting people to visit? Sure I would love for anyone to come and check it out. I have never made a penny off of that site so don't act retarded and shoot your mouth off when you don't know what the hell your talking about.

I don't much care for those smilies, signatures or avatars. Not that I couldn't suggest ways to 'improve' this site, the improvements just might not be appreciated by everyone. Based upon the activity on this board, I’d guess it works OK for most people.

Sorry for the leap, ima. Easy to make the assumption under the circumstances.

Ever hear about the Hogg family in Houston? Wealthy family, their mansion is now a museum. The daughters were named Ima and Ura. For real!

I love html
Hrmm Phaedrus...let's see if this works...

Here's a shot

Anyways...I've put together other message boards with new features and what not. Honestly, appearance wise, this is one of the cleanest formats I've ever seen. I don't think a change would be worth the time, effort, or wait for you. I don't think backpackers need the bells and whistles...if we did, we'd stay at home! This forum is quite powerful in its own right, as well as very visually attractive.

I'm not trying to push the issue but one of the most beneficial uses of a different style of forum is the ability to upload photos. That way they don't have to be hosted on the net somewhere you can just upload them from your harddrive. Like I say I don't mind this board just think it could be alot cooler with alot more features with minimum work.

This forum is much easier to use than the forums at backpacker mag or other sites I've visited. As for "features" such as "signatures," well about the second time you've seen someone's favorite quote, it is wasted space.

I like this clean style, with the most current messages at the top. Loading up Trail Talk with a bunch of bells and whistles would be like taking all that crap you don't really need in your pack -- it just weighs things down and there goes the fun.

Seriously imahiker.com, you have a history of attempting to recruit people directly off of other boards. You're site showed that you had talent but it was cluttered. People like posting here because it's simple. Remember KISS.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You know what really pisses me off. Stupid People. I have been a member of the trailtalk message board found at thebackpacker.com for quite a while. I have always used the userid of imahikerdotcom. Not to try and endorse my site just because I love my website and that is what I do. It's not like I'm making a freaking penny off of this site. Why would anyone give a #&%!$ what my username was. Jesus Christ people just need to leave me the hell alone. Here I'll quote some of the crap that was posted over there:

"I'm not trying to lure anyone over to my site. Who said I was?
Your username says it all"

"So we're so supposed to immediatly drop this board in favor of the "superior forum" at immahiker.com right? LOL! Nice try"

What a couple of dip #&%!$s! I'm sorry but people like that just really piss me off. I was just trying to make a simple freakin suggestion to improve the trailtalk message board. That's it you jackasses

Seriously gear slut how the #&%!$ was I trying to recruit anyone? What the hell. I tried a new message board software yesterday on my site and then I liked it so much I thought I would just post it as a suggestion over here. Because it's free software and to me it rocks. You can upload photos. Alot of cool #&%!$. Look man I'm not trying to recruit anyone. If people want to come to my site they will, if not so what. I have always used my site for programming experiments. I have completely changed my site 5 times in the past month. Each time erasing all of the information before. So if I cared about recruits so much why would I erase everyone's username from my site and erase all of the information I had on there to start over. Just get off my ass.

After checking your site out, I find this one infinitely superior. Matt seems to know what he's doing.

Some sites are free for a reason, others are just cheap.

And one more thing, Imahickster:

Pffft.

I just want to personally apologize for the craziness that has been going on around here the last month. You would think that the website hosting companies would know what in the hell their doing. Nope. They just change #&%!$ and then I go to my site and it doesn't exist. I rack my brain trying to figure out what on earth I did wrong. So after a pack of cigarettes and a stomach ulcer I send an email to my host. Turns out they made a configuration change in their version of PHP and now the way I did my sites doesn't work. Thanks for the #&%!$ing notice morons! Anyway I swear this is the last change to the Imahiker.com site. For one I just can't handle a complete site reconstruction anymore. I'm way to young to have such high blood pressure so this is it baby. Sorry if I seem so upset I am just having a bad month.

Hey guys,
>The new system for my website at Imahiker.com allows for serveral different administrators. If any of you is interested in helping to build a hiking community please let me know. There is no money involved because my site is 100% banner free. Anyway if your interested you can reply to this message or email me at will@imahiker.com. No html or programming experience needed!
>Thanks"

I think he had like 8 members at most.

I find that most people with class will email a local webmaster and ask to have their url added to the links or add their site to a search engine or two. If it's good, people will usually find it. Do you see matt shamelessly plugging his site on other boards?

What does my website having four hits have anything todo with my intellegence? I'm sorry my site is not as intellegent as your kick ass webshots page you got. Man that looks like alot of your. I'm serious when I say this: I imagine that was alot of mind bending work to get that together. I hope you picked up on the sarcasim. How is Violin busting me? He is just quoting the same stuff I have said here. Violin I could see having the ability to "bust" me, but you, sorry.

This is kinda like the WWF of messageboards!

In all honesty, I think this Trail forum is the best on the whole web. Matt give us lots of room to act silly.
On the other hand, iamahiker.com has been tinkering with his site for a while and I'll give him credit. He's working hard trying to get the bugs out. If he ever gets it going he could really get a following. I wish him luck. I've checked it out before and even posted there before.
I just spend 99% of my time here.

As far as "all the bells & whistles", I'm not into all that. I like it simple. I also dig the way the next post goes straight to the top and the old ones fall off unless you do a search.

I prefer this format. If you want to embellish with some html, fine. All the stoopid pictures, emotions, etc. are just so much fluff.

We have enough fluff around here as it is.

Personally I like the way the threads work here. The newest thread started or replied to comes back to the top. You can have the last days thread or the past 2 days or even the past 2 weeks thread or even longer on the page if you like. That makes it easier to find what you are looking for.
