Lonestar says Howdy ya'll

“I put my ECT hat on my head one morning as I was preparing SCUBA gear on a dive site...I saw some old pics of me on the trail with Rad...My treking poles hang in my garage...my Mt Smith on the shelf...the water filter close by....my boots in the closet...I see all these and think of old friends,so I had to say Howdy!

Things are great down here in Texas, for you that don't remember me I was a ECT hiker back in N GA. Rad showed me the joys of the AT in GA and SC.

I still have my gear, but it sits in my garage while my SCUBA gear goes out 2 to 3 times a month.

I know there is hiking here in My Great State, but it's not the same as GA I'm sorry to say.

I've since gone back to SCUBA and have become a Divermaster with a local club. We have one of the oldest and largest clubs in North Texas. We gone lake diving as a club once a month and have a great time. We train new divers and do advance training too.

A lot of car camping. No more living out of one pack. I do miss it at times.

Hope all of you are doing well, and maybe I will see a few old names...

“I would like too. I had a lot of fun when I was on the trail with my 8 yr old son. It's just that the trails here are all in parks with fences. I don't feel like I'm out in the "back country" like the AT.

What has become of the ECT? You guys still get out together?”

“Oh yeah, We still have trips going on all the time.
Rad has a new job or something. He must actually work these days or something. He don't post much anymore.”

“Glad to see I'm not the only one that finds hiking in Texas sad compared to the East and West coast states. The diving in Texas isn't much better, but when you have kids and a nice home, bills beat blue water trips!

So is Rad still with State Farm or did he actually leave them? His Dad and Wife both worked there as well.

I look at Diving as hiking with fins on! I mean, you wear a pack on your back, you rely on it for whats in it to keep you alive. And you normally camp out at the dive site! You dive with friends too. Hiking in a liquid medium.”

All my time has been spent on lake bottoms and in the Pool getting my Dive Master. It's been great.
