Hey everybody. My brother (walkindude) told me some of you were asking about my hernia surgery earlier in the week. Well I had the surgery wednesday morning and I guess it went well. I've been sleeping a lot due to the good medication they prescribed to me. I,m still real sore but I'm feeling a little better everyday. Maybe I can get back on the trail soon. Thanks to all that asked about me.

Now he just needs a bit of Psycho Therapy and he'll be able to go out in public again.

LOL!!!!

Cruel, cruel!

Glad you are feeling good packrat. Be sure and save some of your good pain meds for recreational use later.

j/k....lol!

I didn't say I was feelin good yet. But it is a lot less painful than Wednesday. I can walk without holding on to the walls or the furniture this morning.

Owww...well that's good improvement anyway. Hope you're feeling good soon. Just out of curiosity, what did they prescribe you for pain?

Congratulations to packrat on the birth of a bouncing baby hernia. I hope both of you are doing well.

Packrat: I had 'em done on both sides... about 5 years apart (the last one in Novemeber 2001). You do get to forget about them after a while. Its amazing how quickly they heal.

That's a whole 'nother joke, Stratdewd!

Glad to hear you're doing better, Packrat. Easy does it!

(Hmm... wasn't Psycho Therapy a Ramones tune?)

Hey Bitpusher they gave me Oxycodone in 500 mg.pills for the pain. And no I didn't get to keep anything they dug out. The surgeon fed it to his cat before I could it.

They gave me hydrocodone after a severa kidney infection last year. I don't think it did anything for the pain, but I sure as hell didn't care about it. That stuff makes you feel GOOD. It's dangerous, 'cause I hurt my hand pretty good while on it and didn't even notice.

How big is a hernia on a packrat?

Get well soon. See you on the trail.

Hey Treebait they told me not to drive while taking that stuff. It makes me drowsy after an hour or so.

Nope. I wasn't drowsy. In fact that was the only time I've ever been able to get all housecleaning done in one go. It's a serious upper for me.

That would be some good stuff to take with you in case ya twist an ankle.

A person generally doesn't do heavy work when they have a kidney infection. The pain is a killer. All you can do is writhe around, alternately praying and wishing for death. It's much worse when you're dehydrated, too. It intensifies the pain.

Yeah I agree. I've Worked in a car and truck factory for almost 19 years and I guess the constant bending and lifting caused this.

Packrat- did they put that mesh stuff in along the hernia? It's like a gut net. I know a few people who had that done.

Yeah they put in a mesh polypropylene patch with titanium staples. It keeps the intestine from pushing thru the abdominal wall.

Hi Tango. Good to hear from ya.

How large was the herniation?

It was an area about 3-4 inches wide most of the time and would stick up about a half an inch.

Yow! that's pretty bad, packrat!

Now here's a question...whenever I get pain meds, it's always something like hydrocodone or something wimpy like that, but when my wife gets pain meds she gets the real deal? One of my wife's old docs prescribed tylenol 3's to her for headaches, for pete's sake! And she got Tylenol 4's when our kids were born! The same when she went in for some minor surgery a few years ago...

What's the deal? Why can't I get codeine? Do I look like a drug freak or something?

Take care of yourself packrat...take it easy....

I guess doctors figure women can't take the pain. Most women are raised that way after all.
