Hiking in Dominica
I just came back from a 7 day hiking trip to Dominica
(not the Dominican Republic).
My friend and I had a blast! On the first day, we went on a hike to
Middleham Falls. It goes through the rain forest that forms part of
the Morrne Trois Pitons National Park. The trial crosses the river
a few times before you get to the awesome waterfall. They say it
cascades about 200 ft. over a precipice into a large rock basin
underneith. We swam in the pool at the base on the waterfall.
Great hike! The next day, we went for a hike to Freshwater & Borie Lakes.
We went through elfine woodlands and saw a variety of birds.
There are over 20 great hikes. Some of the others, we went
on were to Trafalgar Falls, Sari-Sari Falls and Emerald Pool.
By far the most difficult hike was the one to the "Boiling Lake".
It starts at Titou Gorge; goes through the Valley of Desolation
then to Boiling Lake. It took all day. It was rough but I'm glad
we did it. Anyway, there are a lot of other things to do in Dominica
like snorkling, river bathing, lounging in hot springs. We went on
an all day cruise on the boat "Carmella". We can recommend a great
place in the mountains to stay called Crescent Moon Cabins.
They are located right in the middle if the Island where it is
convenient to get to all the hiking places. They have a hot
tub that is a welcome site after a long hike. The rates are
reasonable compared to some of the other places we checked out.
The people are friendly and the food is really good!
There is so much to tell about that if you want to hear more
