The chili was a bit warm but I don't find their stuff spicy. Personally I think most Americans under-spice their food if at all.

this past weekend I had the switchback spaghetti(to me it wasn't that spicy but then again I like spicy foods), mac and cheese (added tuna) and the oatmeal. All were great and I will buy them again.

Someone told me the Switchback Spaghetti was spicy, but I had the same reaction as you, Ewker. It was delicious, but not really hot or spicy to me. So if you like spicy food, the Switchback Spaghetti isn't as spicy as some people think it is.

next time I will add some dehydrated hamburger to the spag. Also I think you can add a little less water than they call for.

I always put a little less water than called for in mine.

I bought the tyson chicken in the packet and added it to the Alleghany Alfredo and it was awesome.

This past weekend, I had the Rainier rice and beans, Switchback spaghetti, Parker Pass potatoes, and M. Goolash. The potatoes had too much sage for my taste. The spaghetti was really good. However, I was up in the middle of the night with a sick belly from the spaghetti. I have a lot of food allergies, so there must be some ingredient that I can't handle. I am very impressed with the serving size of the entrees. Good and hearty. Very tasty also! The meals are definitely convenient, tasty, and inexpensive.

Sierra Scramble
Oh brother!!

I'm at home with my youngest daughter today. She isn't feeling well and wanted me to cook for her. I made lunch and then we started talking about hiking foods because she likes to hike/camp.

We started discussing Enertia meals and one thing led to another and we decided to experiment and try the umm...eggs...if ya can call them that.

The instructions say to "stir until smooth". Yikes! I had to use a whisk and throw my arm outta socket to get this stuff half way smooth. Then we poured it into the pan. Let me tell ya...this stuff doesn't look, smell, or even taste good. We cooked it up and gave it a taste. My daughter almost lost her cookies...I ate one bite and threw it away.

Sorry Enertia...I love most of your meals, but the Sierra Scramble will not be on my shopping list in the future.

Having eggs on the trail is damn near impossible, at least if you want them to taste good. Father Goose carried some freeze-dried eggs with him once on a trip we were on together, but I can't recall how he fixed them. Mixed in with his grits and liberal doses of hot sauce? Can't remember.

Pennsy had a similar experience last summer in BSP. He gave a package to trekkngirl on HIKE MAINE II and she cooked 'em up good.

The mountain house dehydrated scrambled egg breakfasts are pretty good, but I doctor 'em a little with real bacon bits, parmesan cheese and croutons.

Actually, I had the enertia eggs and I didn't think they were that bad. I had the eggs with peppers and seasoning.

Now, granted, they weren't so good I would call my friends and neighbors and invite them over for an enertia meal, but I found them to be edible and not bad tasting at all.

As far as mixing them, I added water to the pouch and shook the hell out of it. They smoothed up pretty well with that method.

John from Enertia Foods was at TC3 and asked if we had any concerns about the food. I'm sure he would be glad to get feedback about the eggs. Most of the food is very good, except for the chunky sauces. John said he was going to remedy that problem by changing suppliers. I haven't found any eggs that would even remotely pass for the real thing. I wonder if those low cholesterol eggs in the grocery would freeze and you could use them after they thawed?

Haven't tried the Enertia eggs, but I have had the Mountain House scrambled eggs. We tried to make them like instructed, but we ended up putting in a pan and cooking down some more (too moist). We also added some salt & pepper and cheddar cheese. They were pretty good.

I'm usually a fan of Enertia foods, but agree the eggs are not up to their usual standards. I was raving about to them to a BP partner, then on the JMT this year we swapped breakfasts one day & I gave away my Sierra Scramble.. the response was "keep them to yourself!"

Anyway... I found they're a little better when prepared in a pan vs. in the bag, but still had to season / doctor them a bit to ge them to an acceptable taste level.

Most of the other Enertia foods are pretty good, I'm still an advocate of their stuff overall. Obviously we all have preferences... spicyness, etc., but they're much better than Mtn House, et.al.

The dehydrated eggs from King Arthur Flour aren't half bad. They also come in handy for use in BakePacker recipes.

Croutons in eggs? That must some kind of Yankee Thing... like putting rice in chili.... LOL

I tried out one of the newer Enertia meals when I crashed the Sierra Rendezvous party, the Beartooth Beans. As I was preparing it, Ewker was telling me how his pal tried it and thought it was disgusting (thanks, buddy! :-) ). Despite this pleasant description, I went ahead and ate it. I deliberately put more water in than they say because I like my reconsituted meals a little soupy for hydration purposes.

Well, it wasn't as awful as the Ewkmeister said it might be, but it wasn't particularly good. I won't order this one again - they have plenty of tastier options.
