Fritz is a cool Yankee (takes one to know one!!). He needs a bit more instruction on the southern sun and sun screen..even in LATE Janaury.. but what the hell, we all gotta learn sometime!

“I just checked out Frtiz's website with the Ocala shots - he did a great job there. Count me in on some cooler weather Florida hiking! flatlander and I are pondering a trip to Myakka State Park near Sarasota. It's a bit different from Ocala though. I'm flexible.”

Anyone ever do Apalachicola NF? There is also a very nice stretch of the FT that follows the Suwannee River. Instant cool downs.

Then there is always the possibiliy of a paddle trip.”

Yes, I stayed in ANF whenHurricane Floyd came by in Sept., 1999. I was one of the 2.6 Floridians who evacuated. Most paid high motel rates, if they could get a room. I paid $4 for a good site at a nice campground in ANF with a large, clean bathhouse with hot showers. Only one other couple was there plus the host and his wife.

I found two nice CGs in ANF, but the others were too primitive. ANF is large. I looked around, but I was not searching for trails.”

I slept on a concrete table behind Fargo elementary just outside the Okeefenokee during Floyd. That sucked.”

I really do want to get back up to Ocala. That was my one and only TT hike and I am ready for another.”

I did run the risk that nobody would ever realize I was gone, but hey.....here I am!

Everything's OK, I'm just not spending so much time here. You might say I got my addiction under control. :)

I still check in at least a few times a week, try to keep up. I just "cancelled" my Montanapalooza trip about a week ago. Will certainly find a couploe more TT trips to go on before the end of the year.

Last minute works sometimes, but 2 of the 3 trips I have been on were planned well in advance.

Anything within a 4 hour drive of me, somebody make sure I hear about it, OK? Esp. if it is buried in a thread with a non-related title.

“No, HPM, last year I saw the manatees at Homosassa Springs State Park, but I think there is canoeing north of there at Crystal River or ?Rainbow River? I don't know but I loved the Homosassa Springs area. After seeing the manatees up close from an underwater observatory, we went for a walk and got caught in a typical Florida downpour and it was so pretty out. Summer in Florida can be a lot of fun, even with the oppressive heat.”

I'm around Lyndy. I just got home from a 10 day vacation. Mostly in western NC hiking and taking waterfall photos, 2 days in the Smokies and 1 in Shenandoah NP.

I only managed to take about 1100 pictures and one of these days I'll post a few albums.”

“Lyndy - It was a great trip and I did go myself. It wasn't a backpacking trip though. I stayed in campgrounds and mostly did a bunch of dayhikes to waterfalls.

Fritz - Western NC has hundreds of waterfalls and even though they are still in a drought, the falls looked great.

Yes, I do have ideas where I want to do some packin and I ain't sayin! ;-)”

Hey Fritz - good to hear from you. Sounds like another FL hike may be a little ways off for you.

HPM - I went to FSU and the ANF was the closest place to go stomp around in the woods. Never did the FNT there but I love the terrain, my favorite in FL: Hills, rivers, swamps, etc. TT is fastly gathering a collection of future FL hikes. ANF, Ocala II, Myakka, Big Cypress...plus any paddling...we got big plans!”

I'm a definite maybe for a Jan/Feb Florida trip again. Would love to come down for more hikes and hugs. Also interested in a Kayak trip if that's what y'all put together.”
