namad1,(aka flint)had to change the name, sorry for all those who know me. moving to grand junction CO. in 5 weeks from eugene or.looking to see if there is anyone out there who is in to some desert packing trips,or just get me started in the right direction, thanks later

You're closer to most of the Southern Utah parks and places than those of us in Salt Lake City. Moab is good. San Rafael Swell is good. Grand Staircase-Escalante Monument is further south. Canyonlands...well there's a ton of stuff. I'm always up for backpacking down there. Of course you're moving right before it gets REALLY hot. What's the reason for the move?

my wife is a travel nurse, i am a paramedic, so we travel all over the states, we have about 4 months there but may extend awhile, i have gotten to backpack a lot of places over the last two years, i do search&rescue to am a sar tech 2 and tracking, so all the new places we go i look for the best packing spots before i get there so we have an idea of the place, the site is great for info on places to go everone is every friendly and willing to give info on trips, i am happy i found it,,,,,

Good luck!
My ex boyfriend was from Grand Junction... From what I've heard, it is a really neat place (lots of hiking opportunities). He was into rally cars not backpacking though.

Looks like fun day hiking at Colorado N'tl Monument! I think you can get into some remote arches and red rock if you keep going fairly straight west on a road in the monument. Read that in a guidebook. Went by the road, ALAS, was on way home from UTAH!! So didn't go back out in the boonies! I think that area would be cool-a-mundo
