Any Experience?
I ran across some nylon mason's twine in home depot and thought it might make a good lightweight guyline for the corners of the tarp. It seems pretty strong and it is lime green in color (I passed on hot pink). I'll get some Kelty triptease someday, but for now - anybody foresee any trouble using this stuff to guy out a tarp?

OK with this guy.

Kelty, what?

I've been using the gold color version this past year.

Works well and is way lighter than the standard guy lines.

I bought some for my tarp guylines. It's strong but I don't like the way it unravels.

le Subtil - does heat treating the ends help or does it unravel anyways?

I've had pretty good luck with ice fishing line,, it's braided,, and I prefer the dacron, but some folks have a hard time tying it.

Next time you're in a coastal town that home ports commercial fishing boats, find the fishing supply store that caters to the fishermen. You will almost certainly find a wide selection of braided nylon lines of various diameters. The store I like best here in Washington State is in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.

They sell braided nylon lines in rolls, by the pound, any diameter you want - frm thick thread to thicker than your finger. A 2 pound roll of 3/8 braided was six bucks, and held about 600 feet of line.

Buy the same stuff at REI, it's six bucks for 50 feet.

I have some braided masons twine on my 6X8 sil tarp and while it's strong enough, it's harder to handle and knots form in it easier than a thicker guyline.

richb - I think I can already tell that that will be the biggest challenge with this stuff - the tangle factor.

Hmmmmm, the "tang factor"....

Yeah Coop, I think I'm going to put on some thicker guylines because when it's cold out it even more difficult to deal with.
