“My favorite part of the Aether is the hip belt. As far as I know Osprey is the only one using this set-up. It really lets you get the pack snug. I'd be surprised if many others don't copy it.

Of course, like any pack, if it doesn't feel comfortable on you - don't buy it.”

“i really like osprey packs.i have a xenith pro, 5500-7400 ci.?(1998 i think) and a crescent 60, 3900 ci.(2001). i have only had the oppurtunity to use the crescent once but really liked it. my wife has an impala, 3200 ci(1999?) and likes that much more than her gregory palisade, 5200 ci. it is smaller than her gregory so that probably does help it feel more comfortable. hopefully she will have an aether 60 shortly (thanks joyce) and will be able to get rid of her gregory.”

“The lightest Osprey at ~ 5000cu is going to be the Aether 75 (not a good deal, where did that extra 1.5Lbs for 15L come from?) but for 1 Lb more you'll get a better pack with the Crescent 75 for about the same expense. If you want the best pack for lightness, comfort, and expense, you have to drop down to the Aether 60. IMHO, the Aether 75 and the Crescent 60 are not the most economically ineffecient packs.”

“Oh man I just bought REI's on sale Gregory Forester for that. I have had my eye on one'a them Aether 60's as well. Certainly great reviews on'em.”

“Osprey copied the double buckle hipbelt idea from McHale packs. With this arrangement you don't need a thick hipbelt and a half inch of foam is plenty and will actually outperform a thicker belt.”

“I've been looking at packs for my 10 yr old & my wife as well. It's SO hard to shop for packs online, because as someone said, if it's not confortable, don't buy it. Well, some of them are available at local shops here, to try out, but there are many packs that are not. Plus those snooty trendy gear stores kinda get an attitude when you dont buy anything.

What EXACTLY is torso length? My son is a slightly bigger than average sized 10 yr old. He has 2 younger brothers that will inherit this new pack when he outgrows it.As usual, I am not in a financial position to go top-0-the-line. But I want a good value. I know, I know...you get what you pay for, but I'm not gonna spend $200. He can get his own damn pack, lol

“Top of hips to first cervical? vertebra. Put your hand on his neck and probe with your fingers until you feel the big knot at the top of his spine. Then measure from there down to the line formed by the tops of his hipbones.”

“I got my pack last night. This pack is every bit as nice as ya'll said it was. Sure looks big for 3900 cu in tho. I put 30 lbs in it and took the dog for a walk.

If I can't take it to Co, maybe I'll have to go to the Montanapalooza to try it out!”
