BEAUTIFUL pics. Neat thing about the Himalayas is the mountains grow higher every year because of the plate push.

Eurasia t-boned by India... not very speedy by our standards, but the momentum is stupendous.

These knocked my socks off a while back.

I'm re-reading Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air right now. Even though I know about the impending disaster, it still gives me the fever...

Have you ever read Boukreev's book about the same disaster? I'm considering getting it for an alternative viewpoint.

If Boukreev is the russian climber/guide, than yes, I have read it.. It was a while ago, so I don't remember exactly. If it's what I'm thinking of, it's interesting to hear about the incident through another POV. Definitely worth the read.

Yah, that's the one. He wrote it as sort of a rebuttal to Krakauer's book. He felt slighted by his portrayal in Into Thin Air.

Of course, Boukreev is dead, now.

Yeah, I remember reading about his death, but can't remember the details.

Those guys who climb Everest are nuts! I admire them though.

There are at least 7 books out there about the 1996 Everest disaster and few other's which dedicate a chapter to it. Besides Krakuaer, this story was also told by Boukreev, Beck Weathers, David Brashears, Lena Gammelguard (arrogant Eurotrash IMO), Goran Kropp (excellent read),and Stuart Hutchinson.

Dont read about the place, GO THERE!
Nothing written compares to the majesty of these mountains.
