Well my 98 Dodge Dakota is history, totalled by my insurance company, and I pick up the check today.

I got enough money ove what I owed to make a nice down payment on my NEW truck.

This might be interesting to see what I get told, but --

What truck should be the new TownDawg vehicle?

I'm (hopefully) getting a new Dakota Quadcab in the next couple of weeks. When I did my research, it came out the winner, if you consider price, cab space, and towing capacity. And the gas mileage isn't too bad, considering it's a truck.

I have a RAM 1500 with 140K miles on it. Outside one fuel pump I have had 0 trouble with it. My father has a recent Chevy Z-71 thats a P.O.S. would never own another. I would go for the Toyota Tundra, everyone I know with one loves it (3 people) if not Dodge.

I thought about the Tundra too, but I didn't want a full-size truck, and the Tacoma won't tow dick in comparison to the Dakota. So I'm going with the Dakota.

Buy a Ford Truck. I have a 1995 Ford F-150 that has 174,000 miles on it and other than tires, oil changes, brakes, etc no major problems...looking for wood to knock on. When it goes I would buy another one.

TOYOTA
A few years ago I had a 4X4 Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab, SR5, TRD that was the most awesome thing I ever owned... that thing could tow a boat, drive in heavy snow, pull itself out of a mud hole (locking differential) and carry serious gear... but I would suggest a V6...

At least go test drive one and see how fun they are. Plus they will last for ever!

I miss that truck!

LOL.. guys guys.. come on.. my life aint so bad..

hey.. consider it all excitement.. :).. and truly been plenty of that lately..

but hey -- I got my health, my friends.. my family.. my home.. God is still looking out for me.. it's just been a little weird lately..

Now.. back to trucks.. what I really want is a Silverado Z71..I liked my Dodge, but it was a Dakota Sport (4 cyl).. I will never own another 4 cyl truck in my life.

I used to drive Rangers.. dang.. owned 3 of them I think.. I liked them too.

One thing.. I am almost TOTALLY against some chinese/taiwan piece of crap. I realize I am not REALLY buying American, but I would like to stick with Ford/Cheverolet/Dodge/GMC.

Would you consider an SUV? If so, test drive a GMC Envoy or Chevy Trailblazer and see what you think.

I like Chili's advice.

I finished a lease in Apr. The dealers were jerking me around, so I took half of my down payment and bought an 11 yr old pickup instead.

I like it a lot, and it took me 1000 miles up to the UP and back, purring like a kitten.

No payments, no collision insurance, I'm happy!

I owned a 1987 Ford Ranger XLT long bed with a 2.9L V6 and a 5 speed. I put over 200,000 miles on that puppy and I never replaced the clutch or the valve cover gaskets, just belts hoses, brakes, tires and the oil.

Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD. 91K miles in 3 years. Just replaced the battery, replaced 2 windshields, and am on my 3rd set of tires (it gets offroad). Runs great, no problems.

New vehicle = Money pit.

Buy a two to three-year old vehicle, and save major bucks. Go through a wholesaler who can bid for you at auction and save even more.

Car salesmen = Hell spawn

I have two friends who have the Toyota Tundras and they love them. I like your idea of the Z71. I own a 1-ton chevy crew cab though. Check in to the Z72 Chevy. I know you probably never heard of it, but check with the dealer. Even hotter than the Z71, I am told.

Get A Real Caddy
Get a real Cadillac. I dated a cowboy that had a sea foam green 1966 Cadillac. It was f@#kin' awesome. He had this kick a$$ stereo installed and it was like taking a ship voyage on the highway. Smooooooooth!!

Gas mileage is another story.

Other Reasons To Go W/ A Caddy
-kinda' like buying an RV/personal vehicle in one

-if you wear a cowboy hat and leave a pistol and bullets spread out on the dash, no one will bother you

-no risk of injury, even in a high speed crash

The coolest 4WD I ever saw was a Cadillac El Dorado body on a GMC chassis. For a few years in the 70's you could interchange the chassis and powertrain between the two with only slight modification.

Im going with the Chevy Saburban!

Ive had 4 dodges and they are just not worth a #&%!$!! My Ram 1500 4x4 is great but costly to repair even the exhaust.. $1300 for a catilyc converter. But instead I modified a converter from a Monte Carlo super sport to work. Runs great but get a Checy or a Toyota!!!!!

If you can afford it get the Tundra..if less then the Tacoma..Toyota is the only way to go...Better yet buy an 1985-89 Toyota Landcruiser..put another 5-7k into it and you'll be set for life....

You guys will laugh, but a SUV won't work for me.. 'sides we already got TWO of them.. and 98 Ford Expedition, and a 94 GMC Jimmy. I have to have a pickup for the following reasons:

1) I live in a small town. We haul our garbage to the dump.

2) I work in the yard, and do landscape. You can't throw mulch in the back of a SUV.

3) So, garbage, mulch, and I know you remember my HUGE rock story... any more questions?
