“Heard on NPR this morning, that about 2 million acres of Federal Parks & other Federal areas have been closed. I suggest you call ahead.”

“I believe there are (at least) two fires going right now. The one to the south of Denver was started by an illegal campfire (All banned right now). I heard today that the one west of Denver may have been started by a coal fire. Yes, a coal fire. Apparently it has been burning underground for years. And possibly because of the lack of moisture (i.e. ground water), it has reached the surface.”

“I was just looking at the fire danger numbers for CO. A lot of the reporting weather stations are showing thousand hour fuels (logs 3+ inches in diameter) in the single digit percent moisture content. For reference, the kiln-dried lumber in your local lumberyard is around 12%, so the forests are drier than the lumber in your lumberyard.”
