Titanium Chef - 2002
The site has been approved, and I have reservations..IF I can raise $500.

Place: Charit Lodge, Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

Escape to the mountains without the hassle surrounding the Smoky Mountains. Come to the new national park! The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Our location is easily accessible from several major interstates. No waiting in traffic to start enjoying the privacy of a new log cabin with the scenic beauty of an untamed wilderness at your back door.

We can't give you the whole world....just the best parts....

*Sunrise from a front porch swing

* A myriad of wildflowers blanketing a hilltop

* A blazing carpet of fall colors beneath a clear blue sky

* A relaxing train ride through the wondrous outdoors

* Stepping back in history to a simpler time

* Catching the "big one" that got away

* The gentle mist of a cascading waterfall cooling your face

* Sunlight dancing on a crystal stream

Sevierville is where their office is. The lodge itself is miles away on the other side of Knoxville.

I have a question. According to the Folks at Charit Creek Lodge, they have cabin space for 48 people and room on the grounds for 6 (six) tents. Period. What do you plan to do with all the people you are hoping will show up?

I'm all for fun and games but this is a serious question. The folks that run the lodge are not going to allow more people on site than the area was designed to handle...

350 people...that's a bunch..Big South Forkapolozza or it could turn to be a drunkfest with that many people. It might be worth going just for the entertainment of seeing that many backpackers in one place....I hear Ranger Rick is going as well.

OOooh. This could be bad. I've invited people to come, thinking there would be plenty of space for tenters...We need to resolve this ASAP.

I know that this was posted on a few message boards so we have no idea what kind of response it receive from those other boards and how many people will show up. I would hate to think I got my money in and then didn't have a place to stay and then someone who didn't pay gets to stay in a cabin or use a tent site.

I think these issues need to be
taken up with Towndawg and Joshman.

They are the ones that have created this event. As for attendees...IMHO...if you haven't paid, then you ain't supposed to be there. I, for one feel that since I paid my money, should have a guaranteed place, and I will be loath to see someone just show up and not pay, that's not right to those of us who have paid our money. just my $.02...which in some cases is worth alot more.

I think the people at Woodstock said the samething....lol

I agree Stikmon, if you didn't pay don't show up, but what if 200 people paid and they all showed up, then what? Do you go by first pay first serve or first come first serve. There will be some people who won't get there till Sat. morning or afternoon and they may be left out in the cold.

TD or Joshman, just what is the head count and does everyone have a place to stay.

I am looking forward to this event but I would hate for it to turn bad, esp if it gets any exposure.

From TD via cell phone:

Direct Quote from TownDawg:

"Where are you guys getting this information? I have talked personally to the general manager, he is prepared to accept as many as show up. I have given him a number of as many as 350 people. He said "No Problem, bring it on". That is a special arrangement that is not public. If you call the general reservations desk they will give you the official answer of 48 people and 6 tents. The tent space they are referring to is across the creek. That is not the tent space I secured privately with the General Manager. My tent space is a large meadow that he agreed to bush hog prior to the event that will hold a thousand people if we can bring that many. We are fully prepared to accomodate anyone and everyone who shows up."

I wasn't trying to stir up $hit, I was just following up on a rumor, which they confirmed. If TD says it's taken care of, that's good enough for me.

TD assured me that it was under control. I have no reason to doubt him. It was a good question FG, and it probably indicates that the person on the point (TownDawg) is probably the one who needs to be the contact person with Charit.

I think that was his intent in assigning areas of responsibility (Awards, Judging, etc).

It is the "man hole rule"....

Only so many people can work on the project at any given time.

Personally, I don't want to be in the woods with a huge crowd. 350-1000 people are way over the limit of my comfort zone. I go to the outdoors for tranquility-not a rock concert atmosphere! I will not be going to the TC2. I have contacted Towndawg and asked for a refund. Sorry to the other judges regarding my decision. My agoraphobia will not allow me to participate!
