Sunshine, Pekka, and other Yoopers

“Do you know of any decent campgrounds in Munising? We're trying to find a place to stay next Wednesday, before we hit Pictured Rocks on Thursday.”

“SG - I think Pic Rocks has some campgrounds. Beaver Lake or something like that.”

“Oh, duh, yeah, I guess we could do that! She's driving from Minneapolis, and I'm meeting her there, somewhere, wherever we end up!”

“you may need to reserve sites at their campgrounds. you may want to call ahead and check.”

“yeah, we already did for our actual hike. she's going to check it out tonight. i'm not real sure I want to work a full 8-hour day, than drive 8 hours through some major deer zones.”

“I just found out you're supposed to get camping permits 14 days in advance. Wonder how strict they are about that, especially if we just add on one night.”

“Are there any private campgrounds aroudn there?”

“yeah. the few i've seen are not so great. but, it's just for the night right?

we stayed at a campground right on 28. i think it was a state park. but it was just a field. and we didn't make any reservations. we showed up at 1am and had absolutely no problem getting a site.”

“There is a county campground just over the big hill as you go west out of Munising on M-28. It's just past where you go to reach Grand Island Rec. Area's dock. Very scenic--right on Lake Superior; usually populated by RVers, but I've seen tenters there too in the past.”

“I've seen and driven past the campground pekka mentioned many times but the only camping I've done in Munising is on the Pictured Rocks trail. Pekka, that's the one I found in my research, too. We'll end up there or at the Jellystone park. Those were the only two private campgrounds I could find.”
