The next best thing?
Hello from the Northwoods. 3 days until my first canoe group arrives and I'm excited as all get out, but that's not why I'm writing. A number of the returning canoe guides (as well as some other quite outdoorsy folks) have Chaco sandals. I like my Tevas enough, but they are already starting to wear out after less than a year of use. I bought them last fall about August, straps are starting to wear and I've already got cracked soles. Do any of you have any exerience with Chacos? Any opinions would be welcomed. Thanks much.

Frip-frop yay sandals.

I've had my tevas almost 4 years now and they aren't wearing out at all, just getting more comfortable. I wonder if you just got a friday pair of them.

Chaco's are the $hit
I've had both and love the Chaco's, nothing against Teva's. Great company and one hell of a sandal... I literally wear them all the time. Hell, MN winters can't keep me out of them!!

I would love to get myself a pair. Everyone that I know who has them says they are great. The footbed looks a lot more supportive than a standard Teva sandal.

I thought this was a thread about those desert chocolate/ice cream tacos they have at Taco John's. Yum.

Chaco Bell
There are other sandals out there on the market that are worth the consideration, however, Chacos look the most simple and posturepedic.

I posted this a couple days ago on the Alternate Footwear thread:

I went in to REI this past weekend intending to spend perhaps $60 on a new pair of Merrell or Teva sandals (early Father's Day shopping). I liked both but then remembered someone had raved about Chacos, so I tried a pair of them on....SOLD! Very comfortable and supportive.

They were $15 more than the Tevas or Merrells but they are resoleable (3 different soles to choose from including Vibram) and there's no Velcro to wear out. The guy working in the shoe department had a pair on and said he's worn them almost every day for 3 years and his looked to have a lot of life left in them.

Pricey is the word I got on Chacos. Maybe you get what you pay for. I dunno, I just had to post an a thread started by a guy named Scabby Pete.

What a cool name.

Pricey yes. But made in the U.S.A.

Good product and great customer service.

Watch for sales at STP.

Thanks
I"m back in civilization for a couple hours. Thanks for the feedback about the chacos. My Tevas are almost split in half now, I might call the company and see if they can do anything for me. If not, I will look into getting the Chacos. Peace,

OUCH
I've had my Chacos for a couple weeks now. I like them better than my old Tevas, but they are rubbing my feat in a number of places and when I'm not portaging I have been wearin the straps loose around my feet. I've also gotten sand in the places where the straps run through the soles so they don't adjust as well as they did at first. I was pretty excited about them at first but am only luke warm now. Perhaps they will get better with time.

Peace and wisdom,

SP

The Chaco fit.
The Chaco footbed has very aggressive contours in the arch and heel for the “proper” support. All it did for me was raise rather impressive calluses. If the fit feels right the first time you try them on then I’d buy the darn things, but if it doesn’t feel just right it won’t get any better with time.

I hear them Chacos lived in holes in the rocks for centuries and ate there and screwed there and died there and scratched drawings in the walls.

I just dropped an iron on my toe while wearing Chacos. Another drawback.
