Gregory Palisade pack
Anyone own a Gregory Palisade pack? Im considering getting one and i was just wondering if anyone had one and could tell how good a pack it is?

I don't have the Palisade, but I do have the Shasta and it uses the same suspension. The hipbelt foam on these packs takes quite a bit of time to break in and conform to your hips. The foam is stiff until this happens so be prepared for some discomfort and maybe even chafing if your not careful about what you wear between you and the hipbelt during break in. After that it's a more friendly pack. Expect about a 100 miles of hiking to really break it in. Just my experience with my boney hips.

Great Pack
My Palisade is very comforatable. I had no lengthy break-in time and no chafing problems.

Follow Gregory's fitting recommendations and I think you'll be happy.

I've got the Gregory Redwood.
I didn't have any break in at all.
It's a VERY comfortable pack, makes a 40lbs load feel like 30lbs. Which makes up for the fact that it's about 7lbs all by it's self.

I've got a pallisade (old one-over 7 lbs). It is a great, bombproof pack. I cut most of the straps and buckles off of mine, to reduce weight and complexity. It will carry heavy loads very, very well.
I had no break in time with the hip belt.
The suspension in this pack is supurb. The only negative is the weight of the pack itself, which is a little less in the 2002 model.
I just bought a Osprey Aether 60 to use for ultralight trips, but I will keep my Pallisade for winter trips or summer expeditions.

I have the Petit Dru. Never had to break it in, and it was always comfortable for carrying my 40 lbs. The pack was about 6 lbs, and I've been trying to lighten my pack. I got the Kelty Flight (3 lb) this year, and so far its been a great pack. Last year I tried the Mountainsmith Chimera (3.14 lb), but it was really uncomfortable with over 25 lb. The Gregory is a great pack!

Stiff hip-belt foam IMHO
