Anybody have a pop-up?
I'm looking at getting a pop-up trailer. Does anybody on this board own one? Can you give me tips on what to look for when buying used?

ObBackpacking: I hope to use this thing as a basecamp for my family while I go backpacking.

Check the canvas CAREFULLY. Wife's niece just bought one, cheap, but discovered the canvas was bad and now is looking at $$$$ to replace.

Also check the axles/wheel bearings. Greasing the bearings is often neglected in little used older campers.

stumprider, how old was it? Had it dry-rotted, or just been stored improperly?

OPIE, I imagine my wife will want a/c, but I am going to try to end-run that.

The canvas can go bad for many reasons. I bought a real small camper (Palamino) 2 years ago for 1,000 bones and it has done it's job. That version is real small, so this year I'm cutting off the kitchen area and replace it with a bench/storage are to open things up a little. This one is just a pop up. The thing I don't like about it is that it's real tough to "pick up and go", seeing all the set up that has to be done. It's great if you have a real good place that you can just set the thing up and leave it.

P.S. buy a screen tent. You'll thank me for it!

Make sure you check out the popup times forum. It is a very active message board that is considered one of the best and covers any folding camper issue you can think of.
