“Anybody ever heard of Lafuma gear. They have a 27* bag that weighs 1#12 and cost $130. They say it's 800 fill down. That just seems too good to be true.”

“It's in the gear issue of backpacker mag. I originally found it on their website and called to confirm. I am trying to get them to tell me the amount of loft that the bag has. No answer, yet. I doubt that it's really 800 fill because they also say that it's 90/10, down/feather.”

“The difference in the two is 50 more fill-down. The one you posted is a 600 fill. The one I posted is a 650 fill down.”

“Lafuma lists a comfort range between 22 and 37. Some sites list the conservative value and some the liberal. I ran into this when first considering the bag and starting this thread.”

“That looks like a good deal!! I have the Lafuma Light Confort which lists the comfort range at 57degrees F but Ive used it on several nights between 45-38 degrees and have not been cold yet!! And with no extra clothes worn. Got it for $35.00 at sunnys.”

“I have the 600 and like it. I spent a couple of nights with low 40 temp's and stayed comfortable. The only problem I've had is the down (feathers) working through. The bivy sack looked like Uncle Snuffy used it to raid the hen house.

Actually I think Lafuma is in Canada,British Columbia maybe.And yes they are still French but,Canadian French are ok because they dont like the regular french either.Thats why they left,afterall.”

“I have a Lafuma Warm N Light 600 bag. I got it on sale a while back. I use it in the spring and fall until it gets near 30. They say you can survive in it down to 25 but I wouldn't try it. It's a great bag for what I use it for and it takes up very little space in my pack. The 650 Fill Goose Down is lower grade than many of my bags, but it doesn't take much. The trick is that there is so little down that I have to stick it in the drier with a tennis ball once in a while to fluff it up. It goes "flat" if I don't do this between trips. It's not very water resistant and if you get in a situation where moisture is a problem the bag doesn't work as well.

That said, it packs down smaller than a Nalgene... and I mean for real. It weighs 16 oz. There are lighter ways to sleep at 45 degrees for sure.

“I have had the Lafuma 800G Warm and Light for over a year and used it on some REALLY cold nights. Works pretty well, but I am looking at the synthetic 800 extreme for those trips that I expect rain.

Now I use a REI minimalist bivy on my bag for water resistance and just to keep everything together. But I am wondering.

Should I go for this bag? Ebay has a good price and I can always use a spare for those people I am introducing to camping.”

LOL years ago as I was preparing for the final exam (comprehensive ...verbal...(I knew where the other word would lead) exam) I had gotten to the point where my blood pressure was pegging out with stress.
