Pepsi Can Stove “I gotta tell you-I found a thing called emergency heat at odd lots. It's a can of some kind of stuff that burns for 8 hours...but what is the big deal is it comes with the coolest pot stand ,wind shield combo thing that is the perfect size for a Pepsi can stove. If your like me I made the stove no prob. but I never was happy with a stand-3.99-I got two!” 3:25:12 AM 6/19/02 “What's it weigh?” 7:42:19 AM 6/19/02 “Here I thought this was another comment on this board! ;-)” 9:16:25 AM 6/19/02 “What is odd lots? Is that similar to Big Lots? I made a pot stand/wind screen out of a 1 lb coffee can. It was easy to make plus if you keep the plastic lids you can store the stove inside of it. I saw this type of pot stand on one of the websites that talk about pepsi can stoves. It might have even been off Sgt Rocks web site.” 3:41:38 PM 6/19/02 coool “is it whale blubber? Read the ingredients on the can and post them here!” 3:44:47 PM 6/19/02 “It's called Magic Heat and the pot stand is in two pieces...a round can like part with holes about the size of dimes all around about three inches high. The other part is two heavy gage steel strips that slot into each other to make an X and fits snug on top of the can part. I'll use only the can part it weighs about 3/4 oz. The fuel part is heavy (200 ml.)and will stay home! It is a liquid called diethylene glycol. And yes odd lots and big lots same same.” 4:26:03 PM 6/19/02 oh “antifreeze in a can. I thought it would be more exciting than that” 4:55:22 PM 6/19/02 “It's not the can man it's the potstand I'm diggin'.” 5:02:08 PM 6/19/02 “So far the best potstand/windscreen that I have used is one I made from aluminum flashing (available at Lowe's and other building supply stores) - take a strip of flashing the right heigth for the windscreen and bend it so there are 2 (if you have a pot with a handle) or three pleats in the aluminum then cut the pleats at the right height of the pot to sit on and bend the excess toward the outside of the windscreen; punch a bunch of holes in the bottom of the windscreen and form a hook by bending the ends back - one side in and the other side out - see http://www.datasync.com/~wksmith/stove.html for a similar approach - my approach differs in two areas - I generally use alcohol stoves so the pot stand is a little higher and the ends are asymmetric - the end that is on the inside when the screen is put in the pot is shorter than the end that is on the outside of the curve - also I don't bend down the extra flashing when making the pot stand tabs I make the tabs (pleats) then cut them and push the upper part out of the way to lock in the top ring and make the unit more stable. Altogether it is very light weight and very stable for its weight.” 7:34:48 PM 6/19/02 HOI “That basic design is mine. Glad you could modify it for your needs. I've made a few for pepsi stoves but prefer "esbit" tabs.” 8:34:19 PM 6/19/02 “I've got a similar windscreen made from flashing that I use for my esbit. I think I'm having trouble getting enough air in mine though, it seems like if the wind isn't blowing, my water boils faster if I'm not using the windscreen. I drilled a whole bunch of holes in the thing, but I haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet. Have to see if that fixed the problem.” 7:43:34 AM 6/20/02
