“I have to go to Gadsden Al. tomorrow for a meeting and then on to Jacksonville, Al. to watch the JSU Spirit Drum & Bugle Corp perform. I have a few hours to kill so I thought I might go to sometype of outdoors store if they have one. Anyone from that area of Alabama that might know of a place. Thanks in advance” 4:32:53 PM 6/19/02 “Birmingham has High Country in the Galleria Mall..pretty good shop, kinda trendy stuff, but great selection of sleeping systems, books, and cookware. Birmingham also has Alabama Outdoors, 2 locations..can't remember either one right now..but search yahoo yellow pages and they'll turn up. Tuscaloosa, and Florence also have Alabama outdoors, but that's way out of your way....and Huntsville has Tents and Trails on Airport/Whitesburg drive and Wiley Outdoor/hunting sports on Sportsman drive off of Jordan lane north of University” 4:48:38 PM 6/19/02 “I have to go to both places with work, but don't know of any outdoors places in those two towns. If you go through Birmingham to get there you can stop by the Alabama Outdoors location in Homewood. That's maybe 10 minutes off of I-59. If you're driving in from the Eastern Part of TN then I'm assuming you're coming down 59 til Gadsden and then 431 to Jacksonville. I just did a yellow pages search and didn't come up with anything. If you have some time to kill on the way down or back and you are coming in on 59 from the North you need to go to Little River Canyon. There are interstate exit signs telling you what to do. It's around Fort Payne and is one of the deepest canyons in the Eastern US.” 5:01:08 PM 6/19/02 “Dayhiker, I am coming in on 59 from Tn. I was in such a hurry to get out of work I forgot to mention which way I was coming in. This is going to be a 1 day trip, drive down for the meeting, kill some time then off to JSU and drive back to Nashville. Opie, I do have to go to Huntsville every know and then so I will keep Tents & Trails in mind.” 5:27:12 PM 6/19/02 “I was surprised that there was not anything listed for the Anniston/Oxford/Jacksonville area since Cheaha is so close. Alabama Outdoors does have a Horse Pens 40 location. That's about 15 minutes further down 59 after the Gadsden exit. Go to aloutdoors.com if interested. There is a place in Gadsden called the Warehouse that is a decent meat and 3 lunch place. I don't have any suggestions for Jacksonville. Cheaha state park is about 30 minutes from Anniston. Probably 45-50 from Jacksonville. You could drive up there and see some overlooks. The trails there are pretty good, but I can't think of any short loops in the national forest. You can just hit the state park itself. There is a short walk to an overlook called Eagles Nest, I think. Also, there is a fire tower you can climb that offers good views. The drive from Anniston to Cheaha is pretty.” 5:34:40 PM 6/19/02 “PS, since you're coming in on 59 you might want to check out Little River Canyon. It will probalby cost you 2 hours. The road is right next to the canyon. There are about 15 overlook points. It is spectacular.” 5:37:05 PM 6/19/02 “Also...Sammy's is in B'ham...*wink*” 5:44:40 PM 6/19/02
