“Took a dayhike on the recently reopened hiking trails out at Wekiva Springs State Park on Sunday. They closed it down for a year while they removed a bunch of pine trees that were infested with beetles. Apparently they also moved a portion of the old trail - cuz that baby was opvergrown. More of an adventure than I was expecting - overgrown trail, water on the trail, spider webs, ticks and chiggers. This trail used to be pretty wide and clear. I like it better now, I just need to be ready with long pants and Permanone next time. Just pulled the last tick off this afternoon (stuck in my back). Hiked to the swimmin' hole at otter camp, took a dip. Gave the new Esbit and Enertia trail foods a whirl then headed back down one of the horse trails. Saw a big buck and a box turtle. Wekiva is a great place for a nice dayhike or a quick overnight.” 6:05:52 PM 6/19/02 “Nice to find a treat like a swimming hole at the end of a hike! Sounds like a fun time!” 7:41:34 PM 6/19/02 “I hiked Wekiva a few years ago when visiting a buddy in Orlando--very pretty. The water was cold!” 8:31:57 PM 6/19/02 “Yes, it makes the Summer hiking a lot more enjoyable down here if you can run across some water. The Rock Springs Run at Wekiva is spring fed so it remains around 72f all year-round. This swimmin hole has a big gnarly oak grown over the water so you can sit up there and watch the canoes go by.” 5:51:39 AM 6/20/02 “Wekiva is a nice place, never backpacked there though. I love that spring. So, didja use the G4? How did it do for you?” 7:52:14 AM 6/20/02 “The G4 is waiting patiently for its first hike. The hike was a spur of the moment "Father's Day Getaway" so I didn't want to spend time getting all my gear out of the attic. I just took my daypack. I am itching to try it out though. I may get the gear down this weekend and load the G4 up for the next hike.” 4:43:14 AM 6/21/02
