My folks camp and kayak & are alot of fun.

“Hello whats going on TT'ers?I hope you all got to go out backpacking this weekend.The club had a turnout of 2 this weekend.


Saturday.

I got to the Hickory Ridge Trailhead around 1 pm and about 30 mins later Chin Music pulled up.We thought it would be nice to do the Sycamore Loop Trail into the Axom Branch Trail and there is a great campsite right by the creek with very cool pine trees all around it.As we hit the trail there was a nice cool breeze blowing telling us that fall is already starting to get into full swing and it would not be long before the trees would start the great change into the fall colors.The day before it had rained alot and I was thinking that it was going to be nice to see running water in all the creeks that are in the area but there were only small pools in most places.The U.S.Forest Service had been doing lots of trail re-routing in the area which gave us a brand new look at small parts of the forest that we had never been on so that was a real treat.After doing the loop we got to the Axom Branch turnoff and not that far into the trail they had done a real cool re-rout and added some new switchbacks down the hill to Axom Creek.I thought that this was great becuase now you could see new areas to explore off the trail that I did not even know was there.We did not see any other backpackers or hikers at all on the hike which was nice becuase it gives you the idea that you have the whole forest to yourslef and of corse the animals too.Getting down to the bottom of the hill we found the campsite.This is by far one of the nicest campsites in all of Deam Wilderness.There are large stands of pine trees all around and for a change there was a small amount of running water in Axom Creek.There is also a old homested in the area too which is very cool to check out also.After getting camp set up and cooking dinner me and Dave got a fire going.We chatted for awhile and I made some hot cider to drink.Around 8 or 9 we had gone to bed.During the night we got to hear some coyote's in the distance and a few owls which is aways a treat in my book.

Today.

Was a very easy out.We had to go back up the hill that we came down and I set a good pace for Dave to keep up and he did."WAY TO GO DAVE"Soon after that we got back to the cars and said our goodbyes and had go home.

“I went camping this weekend...no backpacking cause I have a cold....sniff...sniff....but had an awesome time...”

“I just want to thank Mike again for another great trip!!! I thought I was gonna miss out after I took a wrong turn and was 30 min late. Thank God for cell phones. I was very pleased that I could hike a decent pace after being away from backpacking for nearly a year.

I stopped at Shades and hiked most of their trails on the way home. Lots of cool ravines at Shades.

I did get one blister....rats.”

“At Shades there was some flow in all ravines but not a lot. Sugar Creek was REAL high and even closed a section of trial 8. Suger looked angry. Route 234 north of Shades was a cool drive out.”

“I kind of thought that Sugar Creek would be high the Wabash River was VERY HIGH too.

Well.. I am off that week.. as far as I know.. What do you expect.. as far as cold and precip goes.. I don't really know southern IN all that well.
