I still have not finished my film yet so I am going to finish it this weekend with the AHT trip in Southern Indiana. The club had a turnout of 5.The weather was good and the temps were just right for hiking and sleeping. 8)” 12:53:22 PM 11/24/02 Gforce has Coyote friends. “Hey TT'ers whats going on?Well the club turnout this weekend was only 2.Me And Gforce hit the trail in Hoosier National Forest on Saturday around 10 am.There was a nice 2 inches of snow on the ground that gave the small hills in the area a nice look.We did the Sycamore Loop Trail to Terrill Ridge Pond and set up camp. There were lots of nice winter song birds singing and the sky was baby blue. The temps were right around 40.After we got camp set up we got a fire going and it started to get dark.Well Gforce got the crazy idea to YELL out a Coyote call and it got all the locals in the area to join in.It was so cool the sounds were comming from all over. The Coyotes sang for about 2 mins it was very cool.Gforce had made some new friends. We also herd some Barred Owles in the area also which is a real treat becuase it is my favorite bird. This was a nice easy backpacking trip.Once in a while it is nice to do a easy one and sit back and soak it all in. By the way a BIG THANK YOU to Human Pack Mule for the KILLER shoes he sent me I used them this weekend along with my OR short gators and the shoes are way pimp. Happy Backpacking Everyone. )8D” 3:01:19 PM 12/08/02 “Yes a very nice relaxing trip through the snow-covered hills of HNF. And like I've said before that's the great thing about backpacking . . . you can plan/change your trip to any type you'd like . . . it's just great to get out! oh yeah, CMB got to taste my TC2 entry . . . did I win anything? 8)” 7:01:51 PM 12/08/02 “That was good food. 8)” 7:09:18 PM 12/08/02 “What kind of coyote call were you using? Did you shoot any?” 8:10:39 PM 12/08/02 “Sounds like a great time, glad you guys had fun! :-)” 8:12:09 PM 12/08/02 “No we did not shoot any!!!! Ya the trip was fun its like I said it is nice to do a laid back trip once in awhile. 8)” 4:02:10 PM 12/09/02 Hoosier National Forest 1-25 to 1-26. “Hey TT'ers whats going on?Well the club had a turnout of 4 this weekend. We did about 10 miles of backpacking in Charles Deam Wilderness. It was nice and clear on Saturday with a nice nip in the air. There was a dusting of snow on the ground and a small breeze in the air.The creeks that had water in it had froze in neat shapes and in some spots you could see the water flowing underneath the ice it looked very cool. That night we had a fire and sat up and talked for awhile. After going to sleep it started to lightly snow.I herd some owls and some coyotes howl during the night it was real cool. When we got up the snow was still falling and there was about 2 inches on the ground. The forest looked like a painted winter wonder land.It was way pimp to see the snow falling in the air and too see the trail all covered. It was a great trip.So how was everyones weekend? 8)” 3:33:34 PM 1/26/03 “Great trip report, CMB! You should write a book!” 3:37:15 PM 1/26/03 “good job you freakin momo!” 3:38:31 PM 1/26/03 “I like that saying Momo! Ratta tap tap that @ss!!!!! 8)” 4:10:56 PM 1/26/03 “Cool! Your trip rocked. :) Almost makes me want to snow camp.” 5:06:25 PM 1/26/03 “Backpacking in the snow is way pimp I love it next weekend me and the club are going to be snowshoe backpacking in Manistee National Forest that is going to ROCK!!!! 8)” 5:10:23 PM 1/26/03 “CMB, you should have asked that waitress if they had one of those bacon ringy things there. Sorry, I had to say it.” 10:11:08 PM 1/26/03 “Sound like a good trip CMB, sorry I couldn't make it.” 12:23:18 PM 1/27/03 “CMB, thank you for teaching me a new phrase... "Ratta tap tap that @ss!!!!!" BTW, glad you had a good trip. I love when it snows and im on the trail. Way cool” 12:28:45 PM 1/27/03 “Ya she was real fine! 8)” 3:47:36 PM 1/27/03 “Hey Indiana John there is lots of time to make trips dude! All year as a matter a fact! 8)” 4:11:55 PM 1/27/03 Snowshoeing the Manistee River Trail. “Man o man did it feel good to go snowshoeing again. We pulled into the Red Bridge access parking area around 11 am Chicago time and there was only one other car in the lot.We put our packs on and walked up the road to the trail.Put on our snowshoes and off we went. There was about 10 to 12 inches of nice white snow on the ground and the trail was already well used. For my friend Al this was his first time backpacking with snowshoes and he did a great job.It was so nice out it was like a winter wonderland out. There were animal tracks all over the place in the snow telling us that we were not alone in the forest. We passed some nice creeks and we thought it would be nice to spend the night by Slagle Creek. We found the perfect spot and smashed down the snow and set up camp.Al made a snowman and I took pictures of it lmao......The creek made nice sweet sounds to put us to sleep. Today when we got up there were some nice song birds singing and there were still clouds in the sky.It was about 32 degs out and becuase we did not shuttle cars over to the dam we had gone back the way we came.Along the river were we stoped and had lunch we saw a Bald Eagle that was very cool. It was a great trip. Happy Backpacking and blaze trail everyone.......8)” 6:04:13 PM 2/02/03 “Sounds like fun, Mike. Any pics?” 6:18:48 PM 2/02/03 “Nice trip report Mike!” 6:19:59 PM 2/02/03 “I will have pics as soon as I use the rest of the film up in Florida! I wish I was still there! 8) Thank you Buddha.” 6:31:40 PM 2/02/03 “Fun time, Mike, thanks for sharing!” 11:58:47 PM 2/02/03 “YOU PIMP! all i got was a sprained ankle and some killer meds....” 1:15:59 AM 2/03/03 “That sucks Strat but the cool meds is cool! Oh ya it was a great time I will have pictures after I get back for the Florida trip. 8)” 5:26:09 AM 2/03/03 “need any medicinal marijuana stratdewd?” 6:57:27 AM 2/03/03 7:39:26 AM 2/03/03 “Hey none of that on my trip report! 8)” 5:27:27 PM 2/03/03 The Bad and the good. “Hello TT'ers whats going on?Well the club had a turnout of 2 this weekend and it was a very bad start to the trip only to get worse. First the trailhead that we were going to start at was not clear of snow so we could not park there so we drove on to another and the same thing. So fed up we drove to Red Bridge and we were going to do a little of the Manistee River Trail. We get there and the lot looks good to park on so we park and hit the trail. There was about 10 to 15 inches of snow on the ground and the trail was well used by other people who were snowshoeing.Well we dig out camp and dig out a place to have a nice fire.It was a nice clear night and the moon was putting on a light show for us.It was nice to have a fire to keep warm becuase it was below zero. The hike out was nice we again had clear sky's and the nice sun to warm us but another problem was yet to face us.When we got to the parking lot we thought it would be easy to get our cars out but they got stuck. It took me about 20 mins to get mine out and Scotts truck was not going anywhere.A nice guy and his son came by and got him out aother then that it was a good trip. So where did everyone else go backpacking this weekend? 8)” 7:27:58 PM 2/16/03 The Bad and the good. “Hello TT'ers whats going on?Well the club had a turnout of 2 this weekend and it was a very bad start to the trip only to get worse. Cool! :-)” 7:33:59 PM 2/16/03 “It drove me mad about the trailheads I just wish they would clear them becuase the section of the NCT that I wanted to go on would have looked cool with all the snow. 8)” 7:34:55 PM 2/16/03 HEY CMB!!! “Maybe you should purchase a 4x4 with front plow...we could all manage to replenish the sticker collection for ya for the front of the plow! No more trailheads blocked from you that way! LMAO! Glad you had a great time despite the unkept trailheads...” 7:56:23 PM 2/16/03 “You know that is a real good idea.I can't wait to hike with you again Wolfeyes. 8)” 8:01:08 PM 2/16/03 “You just need a Jeep! Last year I hiked out with over a foot of new snow on the Grand Cherokee. About 2 feet total on the ground and no one around for miles. Just put it in 4 wheel low and drove right out.:) I was so surprised I continued to drive around the parking lot.:) My modified Wrangler would have been even more fun! I'm glad you guys made it out and had a safe trip.” 8:12:52 PM 2/16/03 I'm trying Crazy Mike... “I am on for the Hoist Lakes trip but all my time off seems to not coincide with any other trips as of right now. Maybe a spur of the moment trip for me might do? That's a thought...” 8:15:30 PM 2/16/03 “I came to the conclusion that you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to go to many of the trailheads in the winter.” 8:34:19 PM 2/16/03 “Ya a jeep would be cool. Thats cool Wolfeyes it will be soon the trail is always going to be there. 8)” 8:36:50 PM 2/16/03 “I hope you had a chance to snowshoe... Bummer about the trailhead. I got lucky on Friday... I have a Mazda Protege 5 (hatchbach) that has tires that don't work great in the snow! Well I figured for the FYAO 3 I would have to park further out and walk in...BUT when I got there the road looked fine due to Pennsy shoveling the snow drifts off the road! He must drink a great deal of coffee! So needless to say I was drive all the way to the trailhead. Hope you have better luck next time.... My wife drives our Subaru Forester and after this trip I was think maybe I should of bought another Subaru instead of what I have.... OH WELL! :-)” 9:40:49 PM 2/16/03 Jump to Page << prev
