Up North here where I live in Indiana there is very little on the trees but down south there is lots of green.

Once I heard an owl in broad daylight. I didn't know they made noise when the sun was up. Today on my walk I saw some kind of hawk glidding about head hight along a fence. It was SOOO cool :D

Crazy Mike hiking S--L--O--W???!?

Whoaaaaaaaaa!! Good trip!

Yesterday a friend and I went geocaching. Got a "first find" of one at a county conservation park, which included a newly built bird blind. Cool!

Then we couldn't find one in a different county conservation park. We wondered if workers had confiscated it. It was well offtrail, but a number of honeysuckle bushes had been cut sometime recently in that area. The last time the thing was found was early November. Nice walks both places, however.

This second location had kind of a mini wildlife display, including black bear, cougar, fox, skunk, raptors (!!!!). I had a wild turkey fanning for me as I called him over to the fence. (HEY, NO TURKEY JOKES!!)

Good Easter. :-)

Hoist Lakes!
Hello TT'ers whats going on?Well the club had a turnout of 5 this weekend as we did about 15 miles of backpacking in Huron National Forest along the Hoist Lakes Foot Travel Area.Saturday we started at 12 noon the weather was great and there was not a cloud in the sky.It seemed that spring was just getting started there in Michigan becuase nothing was all that green yet.The sun fet great every time we took a brake the warmth of the sun made you sleeply. There were lots of nice song birds singing and you could hear lots of woodpeckers doing there job on trees quite often.Saturday night we stayed the night at the camping area at Byron Lake.We had a nice camp fire and the stars we putting on a great show for all of us.After we all had gone to bed around 1 am we had a visitor.A Raccoon had snuck into our camp and got into some cooking gear and food of one of the club members.I was sleeping in my bivy sack and I heard him walking around and then I got up to go after him and he dropped all the goods and looked back at me.Well it turns out that he came back and sniffed Brian in his tent which I find too funny.....8)Sunday the weather was even better. The temps were in the 70's and there were no clouds in the sky.We passed some beaver ponds and they were very cool.We got to see the dam's and the beaver lodges and one time we saw a beaver swimming in the water. It was a very good hike and we all had a good time.

It was fun I hope everyone else had a great weekend also.

CMB i'm glade you had a good trip. I went on a short day hike and seen more snakes in one place then I ever had before. They were swimming in the water in this shallow creek. I could also see lots of fish and hope to go back with my pole soon. If things work out I will go backpacking this weekend.

I was in a swamp like area of South Texas. The creek that I was hiking along runs into the Trinity River. I was off the beaten trail and it did not look as if anyone had been in this area recently. Lot of dear tracks also.

Mammoth Cave NP Backcountry.
Hello TT'ers whats going on?Well the trip to Mammoth Cave National Park only had a turnout of 2.It was a great trip we did about 12.5 miles of backpacking.Saturday we started at the Good Spring Church Trailhead and started out on the Good Spring Trail. This first half of the hike gave great views of all kinds of spring wild flowers and all kinds of trees. There were great sweet smells in the air like candy. It was so cool too see the sink holes in the area. After we had lunch we came up to Cave # 205 as marked by the U.S Dept Of The Int.It had a nice flowing creek comming out of it.The water was crystal clear. The was lots of moss in the area covering the trees and rocks near the cave it was a neat treat to be in this area.Later we came to the Sal Hollow Trail this also gave great forest types of all diffrent kinds of trees. There were all kinds of song birds singing all day as we backpacking along the trails. We then came to Turnhole Bend Trail which was going to lead us to our backcountry campsite. All day we did not see any other backpackers on the trails which was nice becuase when we got to the Visitor Center there were tons of people all over the place.Saturday night we had a small campfire and a clear sky to see the stars. There were all kinds of owls singing there night time songs to us along with a whipper-will.On Sunday there were some clouds in the air and there was very little wind.I had hung on gaitors on the sing that marked the camp and when I picked them up underneath them was a Black Widow Spider. It was a neat treat to see such a cool spider I have only seen them a few times before so it was very neat to see one again. After breaking down camp we hit the trail and started North along the Turnhole Bend Trail back to the Trailhead. This was such a cool trip I drove 400 miles for a overnighter and too some that is too far of a drive but too me I enjoyed the hike so much that I would have no problem driveing that far again.

I hope you all got to go out and backpack also.

Q: What's the number one cash crop in Kentucky?
