You give love (hiking) a bad name
This song is an apology for my actions in walking around in a grocery store, eating food and not paying for it. Set to the tune of Bon Jovi's "You give love a bad name."

An osprey pack is what you wear
You promise me marmot, and put me in north face
Chains of guilt got a hold on me
When groceries lead to prison, you can't break free

Oooh you're a moron, there's nowhere to run
No one can save me, the damage is done
Stealing groceries, and oooh's to blame
oooh gives bacpacking a bad name

You hike the trail and I sit in jail
oooh gives hiking a bad name

So, stealing food is not great...I admit it. But it did not give backpackers a bad name. Second of all, being called a chump and moron is a bit harsh.
I guess I am robin hood, as someone else said.

I hope all is forgiven.
Long live Bon Jovi....wait...forgive me for that as well!

Hey now!
Hey dude!
I worked long and hard on that song! Lighten up. Can you honestly say you haven't stolen something or done something stupid in your life? And have people forgiven you. Probably yes. If you've never done anything stupid in your life than I applaud you. You're probably going straight to the front of St. Peter's and getting in with no problem. I on the other hand already know I'm going straight to hell. Why not chill. There's a line from a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon "Love the sinner, hate the sin"...it could be from the bible, but I dunno. So forgive and forget..At least just end it.it's over.

oooh - you don't need to be forgiven of approved of by any one on this board. Just take it like a man.

Trust is a big deal to people who get into the back country. Maybe you can tell by some of the reactions so far.

Oooh, how old are you? I think you eluded to the fact that you were a teenager earlier. People will probably be a bit more understanding if that's the case. I thought your song was pretty funny! :-)

Might I add, it still dosen't make up for the fact that you stole!

Artex and garfum,
I'm 19. And I understand the idea of trust while hiking. I've been hiking and backpacking since I was 13. I'm going on the AT this thursday to provide some trail magic...I think they can trust me. The fact that I'm a teenager has nothing to do with it? Do you mean that as a teenager I'm supposed to be stupid, care-free, reckless, etc. I hope that is not what you mean cause that is a lowsy sterotype, as someone admonished me before for doing towards hikers. And by taking it like a man I figured it might be best to apologize to the people who were offended. I'm not looking to make enemies here, or out on the trail. I've never had a poor experience outdoors, whether it be with people I meet, or on a hike bymyself or with friends. If I want to make enemies I can just go back to Israel. Got plenty there, through no fault of my own. Stupid Sharon and settlers. Anyway..I hope to meet most of you one day on the trail. See ya,

I say go back to the store and pay for what you took. Also A wise man learns from his mistakes and takes care not to repeat them. (I liked the song)

Who is Bon Jovi? Was he the Beatles' guru? Or did he play bass for Ray Price before Willie Nelson? Or maybe he was Lefty Frizzel's shoeshine boy?

What tango said. That's why I asked. I made more foolish mistakes when I was younger than I do now, that's why I asked. Key is to learn and grow.

I think the lesson that ooooh learned is that stealing is bad, but bragging about it is worse.

I hope you wind up in prison.

The lesson is that his so-called friends may have thought stealing was funny and cool, but society does not thing it is funny or cool. And I hope he realizes that and does some GROWING UP before he becomes the kind of person who truly BELONGS in prison.

So far all I have seen is justification, excuses, and minimizing the stealing..."it is no big deal." Grow up, dude, or dudette, or whatever you are. It IS a big deal, because it is your character and reputation at stake. What value do you put on that?
