2002 Blueberry CropView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 10 of 10 messages posted.
“The 2002 blueberry crop along the A Trail near Lehigh Gap is excellent. In my role as official blueberry taster, I place my seal of approval on the 2002 crop - plump, juicy, and tasty. The only problem is that it will be hard to make time, stopping every couple hundred yards to top off the tank.” 6:38:59 AM 6/24/02 “We'll know you by your blue lips.” 6:43:52 AM 6/24/02 “And the contented smile.” 6:48:21 AM 6/24/02 “Mmmmmmmmm, blueberries.” 6:52:02 AM 6/24/02 “Mmmmmm... blueberries.” 8:24:51 AM 6/24/02 “my wife n boys picked 3 gallons on saturday.” 9:48:15 AM 6/24/02 “I plan on being on top of Black Balsam Knob up in the Shining Rock in mid to late August to harvest some. That's at 6200 feet so the crop is delayed somewhat.” 8:05:30 AM 6/26/02 “I have fond memories of hiking around Acadia Nat'l Park in Maine and chowing down on wild blueberries while looking across the ocean from a top the peaks there. Can't beat it!” 8:08:30 AM 6/26/02 “take lots of TP...” 8:12:21 AM 6/26/02 “Blueberries are ripe along the Pine Mountain Trail leading up to Mount Rogers in mid to late August. Bushes there are up to five and six feet high and berries grow up to darn near a half-inch round. They are the absolute best anywhere in the wilds. Next best for my money are on the Copper Mine Trail in Delaware Water Gap NRA. They should be coming in about now. Maine's should be great as Artex said. The locals sell blueberries in August along the highway if anybody's doing the coastal thing. Blueberries and lobster, ... Mmmmmm. Those at Lehigh Gap were pretty darn good. They should be out along the A-Trail in Pa. this weekend as well. They'll be out on the Dolly Sods and Spruce Knob in August in WVA. There are two varieties down there, blueberries that are smaller and light blue and huckleberries that are larger and dark blue. The huckleberries taste different than the blueberries. My daughter in law will probably get lost in a patch when we head down for our family car camping trip in August. I think we'll give her a bucket and turn her loose, then cook up some fine buttermilk blueberry pancakes next morning. Now I've gone and made myself hungry!” 8:15:36 AM 6/26/02
