Help Quick! Cancled trip

“help!!! recently a trip to the pecos wilderness has been cancled because of wild fires. now they are trying to ship us off to wyoming for a teen spirit rally where we stay in dorms. we need place to go last minuet backpacking in texas. any good spots? i despretly need your help.”

“Now that I know where Pecos is, may I suggest Caprock Canyon SP which is between Amarillo and Lubbock on the eastern side, Carlsbad caverns in New Mexico is a great place as well with awesome caves, Guadalupe Nat'l Park is great too, you may have to carry all your water, but it does feature the highest point in Texas (9,749ft), The Rita Blanca Grasslands are nice, if you just want to see praire, as well as the Kiowa (in NM) and Comanche (in OK) Grasslands..

That's a start since I'm not sure how far you want to drive. Let me know if you need more information. I have an entire book of hiking/backpacking this great state I live in!

“Do not go to Big Bend this time of year. It is miserable even for experienced backpackers anywhere outside of the upper basin. It is brutal territory in the summer months.”
