Long overdue for more backpacking threads
Okay, so what are the three favorite pieces of gear you own? You know, the ones that still make you feel all giddy whenever you look at them, regardless of how long you've had them. Or maybe you just got it, and it rocks so much you can't believe how you ever did without it.

Mine are:

1. Primus Yellowstone stove - ultralight, have had it for years, cooks fast, and it was cheap, and it's great!

2. PUR Hiker waterfilter - Also had it for years, and never get tired of drinking from a cool mountain stream.

3. Komperdell trekking poles - purchased thanks to the wise advise from many on TT. Have only had them a short time, but can already tell hiking won't be the same without them.

good thread!

1. Walrus Trekker Tarp - thunderstorm? bring it on, it's the only tent that you can watch the whole thing and still stay dry.

2. Crazy Creek Camp Chair - There is nothing like back support after a long day on the trail, and this little number delivers.

3. MSR Overland Hiking Poles - They help distribute the load, keep you balanced, and, at the end of the day, can be sued as tent/tarp/awning poles.

1.Gregory Shasta - not the lightest, but it fits like a glove and makes a big load bearable.

2. Komperdell treking poles - my wife purchased them a number of years ago when my knees started to go. Now, I don't know how I ever did without them.

3. Garmin Summit GPS - not a neccessity, but it has led me to lots of off-trail experiences I never would have enjoyed otherwise. A toy, but a useful toy when utilized properly.

I have to post on this one....
other wise it will destroy my summer.

Logic leads me to say my Raichle mountain boots, my Slumberjack sleeping bag and my Eureka Sentinel expedition tent.

BUT...

I love my ice axe, I put it on my coffee table and gaze at it and fondle it during the off season (I live alone, right?). My pack is an internal frame Karrimor (UK), 75 litre (4 500 cu.in); I bought at EMS in 1980 and it's still going strong - if form follows function it is truly a work of art. Next are my crampons, sometimes they wake me up in the middle of the night because I hear them growing dull and I get up and take a file to them.

Or maybe it's my brand new malemenopausesecondchildhoodemptynester Jeep Wrangler and my Buck 119 hanging from the shifter and my Steiner binoculars swinging from the oh$hit handle.

HMMMMMM...

Might just be my skis that I got for 5$ at a garage sale with the 500$ AT bindings and my new plastic boots.

Or maybe ARGH THAT'S ENOUGH - HELP ME - OH GOD HELP ME

Maybe I was too quick to answer. The Canon Rebel 2000 has to be in the top 3. When we're visited by bears, I grab the boots and the camera. SnowDude claims I've just about run him over trying to get out to get that picture.

The chair is a Slinglite. I heard they don't make them anymore, but I can check A-16 in LA if anyone is interested (~$100)
